MY FRIEND!

Well, I met Kia during summer registration. Her mom and my dad had worked together for many years at the Post Office, so it was natural for them to think we would befriend one another when they ran into each other at our freshmen orientation. Well, it didn't go exactly like that. I didn't want to hang with Kia; she smoked, carried box cutters, and talked about everyone, but that did not stop her from showing me the ropes. She showed me how to wear my hair (it still was jacked up, but at least she tried), carry my first purse, and even how to talk to men. We would meet up at my mom's house on 73rd with everyone else and she always had to take a smoke break. I thought it was kind of cool to have a "woman" around. She wrote beautiful poetry and always told jokes about her twin sisters and their cracked lips. Boy she had me rolling in Ms. Kilbourne (Kill Kill) class. Then one day, I get this call from my dad and it was one of the worst days of my life. I found out my (wiping my tears)friend wasn't coming over on the next half a day Friday. She had a different destination. I never burdened myself with the whys, I just trusted God who knows best. And although Kia had closer friends than myself, she will never know the impact she had on my life. I loved her. Rest peacefully my friend...Gone but NEVER forgotten!

I first met Kia at orientation. We found out that we lived down the street from each other and it was on from there. I was immediately drawn to her. One day she asked my to come over her house after school and i did. I met the twins, and her whole family because the building they lived in was a family building on 78th and Essex. I spent almost every weekend at her house and grew to cherish her and her family. My fondest memory of her is about us watching the five heartbeat and acting out all of the scenes. she was Eddie Cane, and i was JT. We often immitated a lot of people even our gym teacher Mr. Hall. we called him alcoHall or Granddaddy. We were so theatrical as kids. We would always listen to that song by Ghost Face killah, "all that i got is you". Till this day I can't listen to that song without crying. I will never forget the day i found out the awful news that my BFF had went home to be with the lord....It was especially sickening because I had tried to call her before she went to the hospital.... She was my sister. And I loved her dearly. i remember at our half cap ceremony her dad bringing us both flowers saying he was proud of his girls! She will forever be missed....
