This is another post I should have made months ago. I probably knew Joe as well as I knew any of the guys in our class except for maybe Don Pardieck. I did, however, keep in closer touch with Joe after St. Jerome's than others. He left Quigley after 3 years and joined those of us who went to St. George. In the spring of 1967, my farewell party before leaving for Navy boot camp was held at his folk's house at 1937 Lunt (his brother Bill still lives there) . During my leave after boot camp, I saw the pictures taken at this party and, to tell the truth, didn't remember any of the scenes depicted in the photos. Yes, I was underage (19) and drunk but, if there is such a thing as a good excuse for that type of behavior, it is your party before going into the service. By the time I got out of the service in 1971, Joe was married, had started a family, and was living in the far northern suburbs. Unfortunately, we had little contact after that. He called once maybe a year before his death and suggested getting together. A few weeks later he cancelled that due to some family situation. With my travelling 4-5 months a year, we never did hook up again. I was out of town when he died in the summer of 2008.
