LIBIT, JEFFREY MARC 1945-2014
A man of true passions and a deep sense of commitment, passed away early Friday morning at his home in Albuquerque, NM. Jeff spent his life taking care of others -- from family members to friends to professional colleagues -- often at the sacrifice of himself. He was born on May 23, 1945 in the Chicago suburb of Glencoe, Ill., and graduated from the University of Wisconsin and the DePaul University College of Law. He had an irrepressible creative gene and a zest for handiwork. He held numerous patents on inventions ranging from bottle caps to bathtubs. Prior to that, he spent three decades practicing law in Albuquerque. He was the definition of an avid fly-fisherman, and over the years, had probably acquainted himself with every rainbow trout in the San Juan River. He also took great joy in his yearly trips to Alaska. Jeff was indefatigable, overcoming a car accident that doctors said would leave him paralyzed for the rest of his life. His kindness and devotedness will not be forgotten by the many who knew and loved him as a father, husband, uncle, cousin, partner, collaborator, friend and buddy. He is survived by his wife Susan and son Daniel. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Noon, at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, 700 Yale Blvd. SE. At the family's request no floral arrangements will be present.

Jeff and I played ping pong together. I baby sat his sister. He once showed up at my house for a party a week early and then refused to come the next week. He was mortified. I think we were 12 at the time. And you had a great beach.
I wish I could have known you, Jeff, as an adult. You were probably even nicer than the guy I knew in Glencoe.

Jeff and I were best buddies. Summer of 62 Jeff skippered a sailing trip to Wisconsin from Glenvoe with jeff Roston and me and one other .mate. We got becalmed outside of Milwaukee Harbor and stranded in a fog late at night and could not dock to call our parents to report in. His mom panicked and called the Coast guard fearing the worst. We were soused on Big D brewskis but otherwise of sound mind and body for 16 year old boys .(Candy,, is that what you meant by "mischeavious"?) I still recall The Wrath of Parents as we finally came ashore at 1 45 am and am surprised we lived to make our senior year. Jeff, ol man I salute you and tip a Big D in your memory.

I'm very saddened to learn about Jeff's passing. We didn’t know each other as adults, but from what’s being said about Jeff, he was a man of great character with a real zeal for life. We were in the South School Cub Scout group, achieving badges, doing over night events, and playing an active softball schedule. We enjoyed a few one on one play times – I remember Jeff was one of the great, down to earth kids which is a trait he obviously never lost. I know he will be sincerely missed by his friends and family.

Jeff's parents and mine were friends long before Jeff and I were born, and they all retired here in Sarasota, so I got to know him again a bit - several family birthday and anniversary gatherings in recent years. Yes, he was a very nice guy, good sense of humor and very creative. He will be missed by family and friends.
