My best memory of Jeff actually took place years after graduation. My late wife Gail (NTHS1964) and I adopted a beautiful baby boy, Matthew. I had learned that Jeff had gone on to be an attorney and contacted him to handle the adoption.  Jeff handled all of the legal matters quickly and with the utmost professionalism.  That is, until it came time to pay his fee!  Jeff refused to accept any compensation and considered it a gift to us.  Perhaps a coincidence, but the name Matthew means ‘gift from the Lord’.  In this wonderful case, Jeff helped as well.

Jeffrey Thomas Whipple . One of my best lifelong friends. From 6th grade at Central school ,where he won every tennis event, smashed home runs in the bushes and flew by everyone running the long block- 4 years together at SMU in Dallas- then 3 more at SMU law school. Jeff and his wife and Terrie and I were married the same day and honeymooned in Jamaica. Jeff practiced law in Chicago and was an outstanding lobbiest. We played golf together for many years ;his son and daughter married and blessed him with 6 beautiful grandchildren . when Jeff retired to Tucson we still visited one another and kept in touch. Jeff was a quiet and happy guy who always felt lucky to have so many close friends  we will miss him.

I am so saddened to hear of Jeff’s passing. It just doesn't compute. Before New Trier, we played lots of soft ball, attended many parties, and enjoyed a couple sleep overs.  His parents, brother and sister were as nice as could be as I recall what a terrific family he came from.

Jeff was a winner. He had it all – brains, looks, athletic and a great personality. After he passed the bar, we enjoyed a wonderful conversation and decided he should run for Governor!

When we saw each other at the last reunion, he looked the epitome of good health.  Who else could wear a bright yellow sweater looking like he had just come off the golf course!

I am shocked to learn this terrible news, and I will always carry the fondest and greatest memories of Jeff - such a terrific guy.  I offer my sincerest condolences to his entire family.

Almost two years later 1/19/21 it's hard to believe Jeff's passing. We met in 1st grade and were in each others weddings. He had some of the best hand to eye co-ordination of anyone that I've known and I thought that he should have run for Senator.  Tom Teegarden
