Al had a great sense of humor, he was a bright light that shined in the halls of South Shore. He attended at a pivotal time when he truly was in fhe minority. He handled it so well and exhibited the ability to assimilate while maintaining his identity. I sure was eager to hear how he faired in life and now there is no information ? If anyone followed Al I hope they share what happened to him. Nice guy...
Al did basketball and football. I knew him from football ( the one year I did that) He was a strong compretior. I think he dislocated his knee and the coach attended him. I'm not sure what happened after that. We spoke often and got along well. I am sorry to hear of his passing.
I ran into Alfred Hazzard Jr.in about 2000. He said his dad died a few years ago from lead poisoning. His dad had joined the army after graduation and had 18-20 bullets which couldn't be removed.
I remember Al as having a huge smile and positive attitude.
So sorry to hear about Al's passing. Remember his sense of humor and great smile.We were friends with Dale Freeman. I'm sure those were not easiest years for them and Karen Loving as neighborhood changed and they were first African American's in our school. Very brave of their families I think.
My dad also passed (at age 70) from lead flaking off from bullets still in his leg from WWII. Hoping to get to Normandy this year as he landed in 2nd wave. Losing too many classmates as we move forward.
