Per her wishes we put jeannie's ashes in Lake Michigan at Rainbow Beach in 2007. She was healthy and vibrant and living in Colorado Springs with her husband Tom. She died of a brain aneurism while competing with her beloved dogs in an obtacle course. She is missed. Here is her obituary.
Jeanne Ruth Hensel Cherished wife, beloved sister, devoted friend, Jeanne Hensel died unexpectedly on September 17, 2007. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Jeanne earned three Masters Degrees in Education, Business, and Psychology, and was an educator before moving to Colorado Springs in 2000 with her husband, Tom Regg. Her greatest passion was taking her dogs to their fullest potential in agility competitions. Her dogs excelled in many trials throughout the region. She taught several agility classes at the Pikes Peak Obedience Club. On weekends, all three dogs were popular visitors in nursing homes, and were certified as Canine Good Citizens. Jeanne also volunteered at the Therapeutic riding Center. Active in the art community, she was a member of the Fine Arts Center, a student at the Bemis School of Art, and volunteered at the Business of Art Center in Manitou Springs. She enjoyed working with various art media including pottery, drawing, mosaics and jewelry stone faceting. Jeanne was an active Colorado Master Gardener and spent much time beautifying her own gardens. A volunteer at the Colorado Master Gardener Help Desk, she contributed to the Gazette gardening column, Jeanne and Tom enjoyed scuba diving and skiing throughout the world. Jeanne is lovingly remembered by her husband Tom Rebb, her sister, Judy Hensel, three dogs - Omar, Maia, and Nic, two cats – Morgaine and Crystal – and many good friends. -
Jeanne and I were very close friends in grade school. I remember her fondly as well as her mom, her brother, and her little black scotty dog Tarzan. I think we once decorated her Christmas tree together. On one sleepover at her house, before going to bed she was quietly saying something. When I asked her what it was, she said she was saying her prayers before going to sleep. From that moment on, I began doing the same and still do to this day! Was so shocked to hear that she had passed away, especially since we reunited at one of the past reunions and I was hoping to see her again.
Thank you Annette and the others for honoring Jeanne's final wish. I was lucky to have Jeanne as a close friend in grade school.. I remember, her family her house and her Scotty dog. Her mom also had matching Scotty dog black licorice candy ! We had a nice circle of friends at Horace Mann and I have so many dear memories.
Jeanne Hensel holds an extremely warm place in my heart. I actually do not remember her from high school, but I remember bike rides with her while we were probably in 7th or 8th grade. They were much fun because we never "went steady," negating any worry of romance. In addition to some really nice memories of Jeanne and of Rainbow Beach, it was so nice to see comments from Roberta Rich (long hair and a body cast) and Seena Silverman (great smile). Didn't we all walk to Horace Mann together every morning? Definitely Roberta and I and a group of others did. I swear there was an Annette who joined us also. Roberta, hi, can you fill me in?
