Elaine married her college boyfriend, Paul Shapin right after graduation. She student taught the last semester of her senior year and found out that she disliked children, which was not a good mind set for an elementary school teacher.  She and Paul moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where she worked for a truly boring government agency dealing with tung nut oil. After many years of back pain she was finally diagnosed with cancer and she died in 1978 at age 30 1/2.

Gosh, Elaine was so young when you passed.  So many sad tailes of classmates who are longer with us. Guess we should all feel blessed we are still here at 66!

I liked Elaine. We went on a few dates in high school.

I ran into her in a movie theater in Chicago perhaps in 1977 or 1978. She looked terrific; she never looked better; and I told her so.......It haunted me for years after that, the way her intial smile immediately lessened and she  glanced down, and then she looked up and smiled at me and told me that it was nice to see me too. Then she was gone. It wasn't until I heard that she had passed that our last meeting made sense. I assumed that she had been diagnosed with her disease and that explained her reaction.

She will be missed.

Elaine was a dear and kind friend who died too young.  I kept up with her until she died, and still miss her

I remember Elaine - she was a friend of mine and she was so nice and always had a smile for everyone. How sad to have lost her so soon. I miss her.

Elaine was my distant cousin and my very first date (The Turkey Trot). Her death was way too early. Tragic.

So sorry to learn of Elaine's premature passing. I remember her as being very kind & bright. My best regards to her spouse & family. As Susan Moise mentioned, we have lost too many of our crew. Let's embrace those who remain.
