In Memory

David Lewis

David Wayne Lewis of Chico passed from this life on Tuesday Jan. 20th, 2009 from complications of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). He was 38. Born in Newport, Arkansas on Dec. 8th, 1970 to parents Roger and Verna Lewis. His family moved to Chico in 1977 where he attended local schools and graduated from Chico High. He earned his associates degree in electronics from Butte College and worked for Small Systems Group, Inc as a computer services technician.

On Sept. 15th, 2001 he married his love and soul mate Lisa Ann Trimble of Orland, Ca. Together they supported each other in endeavors to build a better life for themselves through education and work. Though, as his disease progressed, he was unable to get out and about to shop, he was always mindful of his love of her and asked his parents to get a gift for Valentine’s Day, birthday or an anniversary for her from him. Though seemingly different personalities, they knew they were meant to be together.

David enjoyed his job with SSGI as a computer service tech very much. But it was his passion to work on his cars and four-wheel drive pickup that drove him. He was an avid four-wheeler and had many friends with whom he spent many hours slogging in the mud and snow or climbing over rocky terrain. Many times they would become stuck in the mud or snow and have to assist one another to get moving again. Or they would break an axel or something and have to be towed home on a trailer. He also enjoyed building his Mustang cars and racing them on the tracks around Chico. He had several small trophies that he was proud of. Much of his free time was spent in his shop building, repairing and modifying his vehicles.

To his parents he was a wonderful child. He grew up a very giving person. As a child he had affection for older folks. Many of the neighbors around his parents home knew him as the child who helped them with yard and garden work without being asked or paid. He would come home and grab a rake to go help rake leaves or help them garden. As he aged many of those activities were replaced by his love of cars. And he was always there when friends needed a hand to fix their own cars. A conscientious young man, Dave knew that every action had its consequences, and he accepted those as they came.

His final memorial will be Wednesday Jan. 28th at 3:00 PM at Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home in Chico. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be sent to the address below.

Though he is no longer among us physically, he will be with all of us who knew him always. His kindness and caring will surely be missed. May his suffering on earth be replaced by a thousand joys in his next life.
