In Memory

Patricia L. Swift (Barnhart)

(11/02/41-12/02/24)

Patricia Louise Barnhart, 83, of Chillicothe, passed away early Monday morning, December 2, 2024, at Westmoreland Place, following an extended illness.

She was born November 2, 1941, in Chillicothe, daughter of the late Samuel Swift and Bertha Ellen (Rutter) Scott. She married her beloved husband, Robert W. Barnhart, who preceded her in death on January 18, 1998.

Surviving is her daughter, Brenda (Jaynes) Jones; three beloved grandchildren, Caitlin (fiancé Derrick Johnson) Jaynes, Ethan (Dana) Jones, and April (Mike) Dray; great-grandchildren, Annabell Jaynes, Hunter Johnson, Addie Dray, and Silas Dray; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Bryan Jaynes; and her sister, Anita Steinbrook.

Patricia was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, class of 1959. She went on to work for AEP where she retired following more than 30 years of employment. While her friends knew her as Patricia, she was known among her family as Grams. A beloved pillar of her family, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren could always count on her loving presence in every aspect of their lives.

She had a special connection to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and she loved spoiling them every chance she got. She especially loved taking them to the Christmas parties at the VFW and the summer picnics at the American Legion. She will be fondly remembered for her love of the Cincinnati Reds, the Ohio State Buckeyes (even when they are playing poorly!), and for solving impossible crossword puzzles. She also had a knack for finding the winning tickets in pull-tabs!

Although Patricia was a simple woman who didn’t want anyone to make a fuss over her, the family will announce a Celebration of Life service in the coming days to honor her legacy.
