James Dennewitz

James H. Dennewitz, Jr., 69, of Chillicothe, died 5:15 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013 in Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus following a brief illness.

He was born August 24, 1944, in Chillicothe, to the late James H. Sr. and Clarabelle M. Pettit Dennewitz.

On October 10, 1979, he married the former Sonia Palisbo who survives.

Also surviving are children, James H. (Kim) Dennewitz III, of Piketon, Michelle (Lee) Shackleford, of Chillicothe and Misty Rose Dennewitz, of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Landon, Cameron, Lexie, Angelina, Evan and Sarah; and nephews, Doug and Richard Zonner.

He was predeceased by a sister, Jo Anne Zonner.

James served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from Chilpaco where he had worked for 35 years and also the Chillicothe VA Medical Center where he had worked for 8 years.

James was the sole surviving son of one of the Dennewitz brothers who were killed during World War II.

James was a member of St. Peter Church where Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 with Fr. William P. Hahn, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the WARE FUNERAL HOME where a Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m.
