We lost Scott in 2004 to cardiopulmonary arrest. He was a former officer of the Chula Vista Police Department, and resided in Eastlake. In high school, he was soft-spoken and kind, always ready with a smile. He was a great friend. He is survived by his mother, Randy Rathbun, and brother, Darrel Rathbun.
To the Family of Scott Rathbun...I went to school and graduated with him in 1990. He was one of the nicest guys I knew...I thought I'd share a funny story with you as you may enjoy the humor. One night when I was a senior, I was "parking" with my boyfriend..all of a sudden, a police car pulled up and asked us to get out of the car...thank goodness we were really just parking...but out of nowhere I hear, "Donna is that you?" from the police car. Absolutely embarrassed, Scott recognized me. He was doing a junior police run/internship in high school with them and he was the ride along with the police officer that found us. I don't know who was more embarrassed, him or me... We laughed about it for weeks afterwards. I never forgot him and I tell the story often..of course no one believes I was really just parking...Scott did ;) With love and saddness, Donna D'Alessandro-Donovan
Oh my gosh! I can't believe this! I've been waiting for our 20th reunion just to see Scott again. I was so excited when we ran into each other at our 10 year reunion. We sat together that night and reminisced about the good old days. Scott was such a great friend to me in high school. He was someone I could always depend on. Through the years, I have always told the story of when he wanted to totally gross me out. He told me that he liked to eat raw hamburger meat. I knew he was lying, but he dared me to prove him wrong. So one day after school we went and bought some hamburger meat and went back to my house. I sat there and watched him eat the hamburger meat right out of the package! I was yelling and screaming the whole time and, yes, was totally grossed out. I even took a picture of him doing it. We had many laughs about that day. Although I never saw Scott after our 10th year reunion, his spirit had always been with me and I will never forget him. He truly was a one of a kind guy. Always smiling, always happy and always a friend. I will miss you Scott, but I know you are still here, smiling down on the rest of us. You will be in my heart forever! Love Z
Oh Scott you are sorely missed. You were the sweetest, kindest, gentlest man I knew in school. God must have great plans for you in His kingdom to bring you back to him so soon. I look forward to seeing you in heaven friend.
My sister and I used to play chase tag with him and Bryan Carney at the Villa Seville apts when we were younger. After high schools years later we ran into him at the airport- It was great to see an old friend who we cherished such great memories with. He will always be in our hearts..R.I.P.
Scott, my long lost friend, I remember you all the way back from Harborside Elementary School where we also had the pleasure to graduate from CVJH and CVHS as well.
You were always nice, shy and polite. I'm going to take this wayyy wayy back but I even remember you when you were a" safety patrol" at Harborside and wore that "red jacket" that we all so coveted. Man, did I want to be a "safety" and show off that "red jacket" real bad!!
