Wayne lived at the end of my street and was my first friend. Although we drifted in other activities in 4th grade, we would still wave or chat through junior high. He had to choose between being the football quarterback or the band leader in 9th grade. They couldn't replace him in band so that's what he went with without regret. Out paths crossed again at SDSU. We were both finishing up ROTC for the Air Force. He had given up his pilot slot but stayed in to serve because of his commitment He was that kind of guy. We caught up that summer after college playing tennis and enjoying the beach. I miss his friendship to this day. Wayne was highly intellectual with a serious yet thoughtful nature. He always put others first whether it was Jr high, college or life in general. He just ran out of giving.
