In Memory

Carla Scott (Wedding)

Carlajean Wedding, 49, of Carlisle, passed away Saturday, August 3 following a lengthy illness. A native of Chula Vista, California, she was a 1981 graduate of Hilltop High School and a 1992 graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Once described as a "hostess to the world," she enjoyed cooking, entertaining, and socializing. She especially enjoyed the many friends she made from all over the globe while volunteering with the Culture and Conversation program for spouses of international students assigned to the U.S. Army War College and from numerous duty stations she lived at over the course of her husband's military service. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, CAPT Thomas E. Wedding, USN RET; her parents Jean and Winfield Scott of Carlisle; her sisters Sheri (John) Williams of San Diego, California and Diane Crawford of Port Orchard, Washington; her nephew John (Brooke) Wilson, niece Jayme (Joe) and grandniece Karlee Jo Herrin of San Diego, California; numerous other nieces and nephews; and her best friend since high school, Kim Morales of Bonita, California. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Carlisle Barracks Saturday, August 10, at 10:30 a.m. A loving, generous, outgoing, and colorful person, one of Carla's final requests was that those celebrating her life by attending her memorial service not wear black. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Carla's name to the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle. It is with great sadness that I inform you Carlajean Scott Wedding passed away on August 3, 2013, in Carlisle, PA. She courageously fought Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS). Although she was taken way too soon, Carla had a great life. She experienced more in her 49 years than most people do who live to be 100. Carla and her husband were assigned to many duty stations throughout the United States and abroad, which enabled her to embrace different cultures and make life-long friends around the world in the process. Carla loved to travel, cook and entertain. If you were lucky enough to travel with her, you could expect an adventure. She once hired a scary-looking, Pirate-like boat captain to take us around Bora Bora. When he pulled up to the pier, Carla just smiled as the rest of us wondered if this would be our last voyage. It ended up being a perfect day. She would host parties at her house for 50 people, cooking everything herself, and never once did she feel overwhelmed or nervous. Carla was devoted to her husband of 24+ years, and loved her family and friends dearly. She will be greatly missed, but we all carry on knowing we were blessed to have had her in our lives.

Although I didn't know her personally, I do remember her around campus.  She always had a sweet smile and kind to everyone around her.

My sympathies during your family's time of grieving of your loss,

Kim - you did a wonderful job capturing who Carla was.   But of course you probably knew her better than anyone.  Carla was definitely unique.  I remember the times when the 3 of us would get together and there was never a dull moment.  After I moved away, it was always fun to hear the "Carla" stories from you.  And although the world is a much different place without her, I know that heaven is that much brighter with her in it:)  She will be missed!
