Upon graduation from HHS I attended the University of California at Davis and earned a BS degree in agricultural economics. Afterwards I attended graduate school at the University of Missouri and earned two graduate degrees; Master of Science in Agricultural Economics and Master Business Administration in Finance. Subsequently I worked for Bank of America and Wells Fargo in San Francisco providing commercial credit services to cotton merchants, food processors and wineries.. I also managed two separate wineries: CalGrow with offices in San Francisco and winery operations in Tulare County and Clos du Val winery in the Napa Valley where I currently reside. I retired from the business world in 2008 I am blessed with three beautiful sons and five grandchildren all of whom live in Napa. I am friends with my former wife , Melissa Raynes. I am physically and spiritually in a good space.

School Story

I am thankful for a wonderful experience at HHS. So many great teachers, administrators, friends and acquaintances. Hosting students from Argentina and traveling to Argentina with fellow classmates was a highlight for me.

Back home after a month in Mexico… The first time I was in Mexico City was with 16 of my Lancer classmates. On our way to Argentina… Fabulous memories… Bob Brelsford was a HHS English teacher and arranged a student exchange sponsored by the Copley press… I traveled with Ann and Julia Nelson, my twin sister, David Pena, Bob, Tyson, Liz Eldridge, Melissa Raines, Craig Glass,, Martin Abadi, and others. Mexico City is home to fabulous art, and architecture, museums and about 22 million people … looking forward to catching up with Lancer classmates at Howard and Nova’s Christmas party in two weeks… Go Lancers

George… Thank you for your message. The living conditions were pretty much as expected. We all slept on bunkbeds in a big room at a labor camp. The bathroom and showers were in a separate building. They gave us breakfast every morning and packed in a lunch. The working conditions in the field were harsh. The daily temperatures were usually in the 90s in the desert at Blythe. We were given big bags and we would walk down furrows and fill the bags with cantaloupes. When our backs were full with about 40 pounds of cantaloupes, we would walk up a plank attached to the back of a truck and empty our bags. On our lunch break we would swim in the irrigation ditches. Plenty of beer and cigarettes at night to ease the pain. The whole experience gave me a lasting appreciation for hard work tcontribution of immigrant labor.

BTW … I enjoy and appreciate your contribution and articles that you post on the website.
