Russ you were loved by so many people. If you met someone you  immediately became a friend. I will never forget  the picture of you in the frilly pink hairnet with curlers that you wore to sit in the girls section of the train on our Washington trip. You made so many people smile. We will miss you but you will live forever in our memories.

It seems that all of us have fond memories of Russ, I know that I do.  We were teammates on the baseball team and members in good standing in the "Honor" study hall as Seniors.  Seems as though we all walked out of somewhere crowded and gathered in the same room...and no one ever told us to leave.  So we didn't.

I saw Russ just three or four times in the last fifty-five years.  Just three or four, how sad.  But when we were together there was laughter and shared memories and that is what being old friends is about.

Russ was a success in life, but more than that, he was a success as a human being, and that's the way we should all remember him.

I have known Russ since the third grade and he was a sincere and genuine person. We have kept in touch over the years as well as our special gatherings locally. I knew about Russ' condition for sometime and he was taking it instride as he did with life itself. A few of us had the priviledge to visit Russ while he was at home and his sense of humor was always in tact. As his journey took into Cincinnati Hospice, it became more obvious that Russ would be leaving us very soon. I am glad that I had the opportunity to visit him 2 days before his passing. While he could not communicate verbally, he did so with his eyes and that twinkle was always there. As a VietNam vet, I have just lost another member from the "band of brothers".  He will be greatly missed by his family and numerous. friends. God speed my Brother!

Russ, I  will always remember you and I having great summer times riding on my Moped.  We met in seventh grade at All Saints School. Those are memories  that I will never forget.  You were always a positive influence on my life.  Sincere condolences to your family.  RIP, my friend.

It is with much sadness to learn of Russ's passing.  Russ was always so enjoyable to be with.  He had a twinkle in his eye that reflected his humor, kindness, and wit.  We had great times at school, after school functions, and later on in life getting together for our reunions, playing golf, and just hanging out.  Russ you will always be remembered as a great friend and kind person to all.  With fond memories, Rich.

      I came later to the Russ Uckotter fan club. I remember an ornery twinkle in his eye as he roamed the his guy school halls and lightened the classroom with his humor and comraderie, especially with David Gapinski.  They seemed to relish their football games and sports.  I didn’t see the Russ then I came to know 40 years later starting with those reunion committees.  I learned what a great cook he was as we brought a dish to share and he would arrive with a baked artichoke dip I didn’t know I would love.  

Later, he introduced induced me to WWF (Words with Friends) and astounded me, the English teacher, by beating me more times than not. Our little text chats within the games kept me giggling and taught me his wit, honor, patriotism, intelligence, and devotion as a family man.  I learned he was devoted to his family and business, and especially his treasure Michele. When our daughter needed a realtor, I knew just who to suggest, so Russ is part of our family history now as they sold one house and bought their dream home with him.

Even with his valiant struggle, he remained almost a daily presence in our games and was still beating me the last week.  I honor Russ’s memory and miss our games.  Farewell, my friend, you were always a winner.

Russell Uckotter will be missed....

Bless the Uckotter Family and Bless all the families that were touched by Russ Uckotter.  There were many!!

I wish to share a poem by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. in honor of Russ.

I remember Russ as a fount of joy in any setting.  That was High School.  Never had the privilege of knowing him afterward.  But from all I've read he continued to deliver joy and laughter the rest of his life.

Russ was a great guy. Loved his gamily and friends, wonderful sense of humor, great leader.  He was indispensable to our class reunions and golf outings.  And he was an amazing Scrabbler!  Russ truly made the world better.
