I was deeply shocked to learn that Marni died on September 23, 2007. I found out from the reunion website. That led me to google her, and I learned that she had a very distinguished career as the Director of an early childhood education center in Philadelphia. When I did the search, I found some glowing tributes to Marni for the many humanitarian causes she had been involved in.
Marni was one of the finest people I have ever known, and she was my good friend in high school. I regret that I rarely had contact with her after high school. I had hoped to reconnect with her through the reunion.
Marni was one of the people I kept in touch with over the years, partly because our parents were also friends. It was Marni who persuaded me to attend our 25th WHHS reunion by offering to drive me there and put me up at her mother's house. As a result, I got a chance to glimpse some of the wonderful changes the years had made in our classmates. I visited her in Philadelphia, where she had a comfortable stone house, and she and her friends showed me around that city. She was head of the Parent-Infant (daycare) Center, and her friends tended to be other people involved in nonprofits and work to help others. Then one day she called to say that she'd learned she had a brain tumor. She would be having an operation, but in case it didn't help she'd decided to call the friends she didn't see too often and say good-bye. Then as now it struck me as a very brave thing to do. We talked about what she was doing -- cleaning out the garage, preparing for a garage sale. Her older brother was there helping out. Eventually we said good-bye. I agree, she was a good person. I miss her.
