Kay Kawakami died in the summer of 1955 (?) (after our sophomore year) of an asthma attack. Many of us will recall his giant smile and friendly nature. He was a member of BOA fraternity and a student manager of the varsity football team among other distinctions. I cannot forget what a wonderful guy he was and I have not found a match for the originality of his zest for life.

I went to elementary school with Kay and he was a very outgoing person. I remember when one day he
invited me to play football with him, Mike Tunick and some other guys. Me being a "tom boy" accepted and
I caught the ball and ran with it and scored a touchdown for the other team while everyone else was laying on
the ground in fits of laughter. Never played football since not even with my grandsons.
