Steve Engle died on September 12, 2001, the day after the attack on the World Trade Centers. He had been battling cancer for many years. He resided with his wife in Orange Beach Alabama. He had previously worked for IBM in North Carolina where his son still lives.

He was a fun guy with a wry sense of humor and a fraternity brother in Scarab at WHHS. He will be truly missed. Too many funny stories to relate here. Maybe sometime later. One I will share is that we all once met at his parents' house in Hyde Park. They had a gas fireplace with fake logs. The gas was controlled by a handle sticking up through the floor. One of us tried to turn the gas on but we turned the handle too far and it came off in our hands and the gas was going full blast. We all left there in a big hurry. Never heard about an explosion in Hyde Park so all must have turned out OK.

Then there was the seltzer bottle incident in Ault Park, the beer bust/card party at the Jazz Bohemian, etc, etc, etc. The guilty parties all know who you are!!!!

I last talked to him in 2000. Never once did he mention his illness. Not a word; not one complaint. That's the kind of guy he was.
