I knew Marilyn since we began at the brand new Shroder junior high school.  She was a quiet girl, kind and thoughtful.  Her older sister talked all the time.  Marilyn had beautiful eyes which showed up better on her senior photo.  In winters, we went ice skating with friends at the Cincinnati Gardens, Burnet Woods and at Margie Harper's house.

One time her sister Doris, who drove, dropped the two of us off at the lake in Winton Woods and came back for us about two hours later.  Her parents didn't know she didn't stay with us.  We felt so grown up being all on our own.  We laced up our skates and began skating.  When we got a little close to the shore, in the warming weather, the ice emitted loud and long groans.  We didn't know why the ice was groaning and thought it was funny.  We skated for a couple of hours, with the boundless energy of 14-year olds, not realizing the noise was from melting and cracking ice.  How fortunate we were not to have fallen through the ice!
