It's a bit weird that Ray Spencer just entered a comment about the DAV and Eric on the site. Jst 2 nights ago while having dinner my wife gave me a beverage glass identical to those 10 cent beers Eric, I and others used to get @ the DAV and the shoot pool until closing-on multiple occasions. One of my favorite memories of Eric (aged around 16 or 17) and I fooling around was awhile we were likely having consumed numerous Hudepohl beers  he was driving me @ a high rate of speed down Montgomery Rd. in his family Corvair which had a thumb shift- I reached over and threw the car into neutral which of course caused it to lurch...and throw the damn fan belt. He was not a happy camper with me over that one! Eric was one of the most intelligent, articulate and genuine of all,of my oldest friends. We went back to our days @ Schroeder when he lived on Kennedy Ave. There was never a short answer from Eric to any question-usually one filled with informative details. Recently while dealing with his future demise and health issues, he did so with dignity and thoughtfulness to his family. My deepest sympathies go out to his angelic wife Judy and the rest of his family. He was most special and one of a kind!

Judy Hawks! Eric and I KNEW OF each other @ Woodward. Sometime around the 50th, we discovered a mutual lost friend in Buzz Sawyer. I located Buzz and tried to get a message to him that Eric wanted to reunite. Calling Buzz was of no avail. I called Eric on two ocassions to give him the news. He was equally frustrated as I was. It somehow brought the two of us together. Eric and I faced each other @ the 50th. I was so impressed by the way Eric handled the meeting. He said" Sometimes people just don't want to participate. I have to respect his privacy."  We shrugged our shoulders and embraced one another. I said" Eric, it's his loss, but you and I are here now to celebrate." So it is now 2 years + since the 50th. We last saw each other @ Peggy's house. I was introduced to your lovely wife Judy. I will never forget your struggled smile when I saw you. I can never forget your 50th. smile as I write this....jeff

I am so sorry to read about Eric. I am so glad that we could spend time together at the 70th birthday party. Eric's face lit up the room with his smile. He knew that he was dying and seemed at peace with it, but we will miss him so much.

Eric was a good man, he got me re-involved in our old fraternity DB which meets on occassion for a dinner at Montgomery Inn. It was good to see old friends and meet some of the "older" guys. I remember the old DAV along with Paul and Ray as well. Eric was always good to hang out with. I never remember him having bad words with or about anyone. Rest in peace Eric, we shall all join you some day.

I posted on this the day it was announced......not sure what happened to it.  I will miss Eric, he was quite a guy!!   He was a fraternity brother, and we had lots of good times at the Mainliner, Drake, and at JJ's after school.  Eric loved the Righteous Brothers and would often start singing their songs like "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" or "Unchained Melody".  Ocasionally I'd join in........but it was his show <G>   Eric, you'll be missed!!  Rest in peace brother.

Eric and I went way back all the way to North Avondale Elementary and hanging out at Seasongood Park with a very wild bunch of guys,  We even had our own club which we formed when we were in 5th grade.  Going to miss seeing Eric at  Class get-togethers.  He was genuinely one of the good guys.

Paul Hendrick writes:

I remember Eric from his senior year at Woodward with great affection and respect.  When I began to work with him almost 50 years later planning the reunion,  I grew to love him for his absolute dedication to whatever he was asked to do even as he was already facing increasing challenges with his diabetes (something we shared).  He was such a steadying presence with creative input and upbeat humor.  The last e-mail he sent me was a reminder of where he had told me he found you could still buy weejuns.  The world is a sadder, colder place without him.   Paul
