In Memory

David Siereveld

David Siereveld

Survived By: Sons Ryan and Eric Brothers Jeff and Bruce

May you rest in peace my good friend. Since our high school days when we formed Group W, you brought a lightness through story to all of our shenanigan's. You are missed.

I'm so sad to hear David has left us. Since re-uniting at our reunion, and again after, I had in mind to hang more with this kind, thoughtful and gentle soul. We go back a long, long way ... elementary school at Clifton, then Schwab, then Aiken. All fond memories, very. Rest in peace my friend, you're a special soul and we'll sure miss you gentle brother.

I grew up with David and his family at Calvary Church, Clifton. In fact, his dad was my little league coach! Rest in Peace, my friend.

So sorry to hear this! He was such a sweet guy in high school. Debbie, you and Dave were such a cute couple! I'm sure he had a special place in your heart!

Sorry to hear about Dave.  I saw him most mornings at Aiken since, as I recall, we were always in the same home room because our names were so close alphabetically.  Great guy!

Growing up in Clifton I remember David as cheerful, honest and focused on his future.  When I ran into him, he was always positive and a gift to talk with about our life and times.  I am so sorry he couldn't outlast his illness.

Dave and I were pretty close for several years at and after Aiken. We took a Florida road trip together in one of his Triumphs; it had a failed exhaust gasket which overheated the engine, so we had to stop constantly to let the engine cool; took abt 24 hrs to get to Ft. Lauderdale. We got it fixed somewhere in FLA. He hosted a famous NYE party or two, had many parties at his house, and was a union guy who made what was then a fortune working at Krogers. I have no memory of Dave ever being anything but kind, good-humored, pretty funny. and a gentle soul. Our lives drifted apart, as lives do. In more recent years, Dave joined a number of men in an annual dinner, and he'd had some health setbacks he'd worked hard to surmount. It was good to see him.

I'll miss Dave, and relish the many fond memories from a long time ago. There's a lot of water under the bridge for all of us, and our life paths converge and diverge. He was a good guy. May his pain now be abated and may he find peace in the palm of God's hand.

Dave was a good friend.  One with whom I should have stayed in better contact - like so many others.  From some memorable Kraft Mac & Cheese lunches to our feeble attempts to reach greatness on Clifton tennis courts, Dave shared his time and life.  Like others, his friendship was redemptive.  May God's grace and mercy now provide Dave the comfort and kindness that he  demonstrated so selflessly to all of us in this life.

RIP my friend...

Dave and I were friends at Aiken but... he was way into Debbie and seriously distracted regarding guy things.

Our relationship blossomed at UC (after he and Debbie broke up), we spent a lot of time at TUC's bowling alley and also the brand new McDonnald's that was installed in our freshman year.

He also taught me how to smoke cigarretts, Taryeton 100's, during those days when you could still smoke inside a building.  Took me 30 years to break that habit.

He was really into cars but restless, changing cars at least annually if not more frequently.

My favroite Dave, story, is this one:

We, Dave, I and our friend Steve Grote (Lasalle '71 who married Kathy Mullinger Aiken '73) decided during our college freshman Spring break that we were going to go to Wisconsin to snow ski.  Dave had a cousin that lived in Menomini Wisconsin.

So we set out early in the morning to head to Wisconsin in Dave's Simpka (think Honda Fit sort of size), we were planning on 32 miles per gallon.  We headed over I-74 going down to Miamitown (where the great Miami river is).  Pulling out of the river valley is a bit of a steep climb.  The Simpka did great down into the river valley but on the way up we went for 70 to 50 to 40 to 30 to 10 to 0 MPH..  Simpka was not up to the task.  Obviously we were very dissapointed.. However the next moring Grote calls me and says that his mom offered her Toranado for us to use on the trip.. We went from 32 MPG to 10 MPG. Regardless it was a fun trip and full of memories.

BTW, we never did find a place to ski in Wisconsin.

I was also "Bestman" in Dave's wedding.

We had been a bit disconnected over the past 20 years or more, but I concur with the other sentiments, Dave was a funny, talkative and gentle guy who I loved a lot.

Great guy... Just want to say to you all, this death thing is a 100% probability, time to take seriously the claims of Jesus Christ.. Aiken class of '71 in Heaven needs to include all of us.

Bill

Wonderful stories about David.  Thanks for sharing with the rest of us.

My frienship with Dave goes back quite a few years. We were fellow members of the Aiken Band (always styling in those uniforms) and Hi-Y.

Freshman year at UC we shared a class or two and countless hours in the student union, both in McDonalds and in the basement bowling lanes. Just like B. Nadler, I succumbed to those Tarrytons and didn't break the habit for a long time. I don't hold it against you Dave!

In later years, Dave was one of a group of friends that regularly gets together to continue friendships started so long ago. As such, and because of the type of person he was, he will be sorely missed!
