Mr. Caboot was only about 6 years older than we.  He was a new teacher when he taught us.  Those who attended the last reunion will remember that he was there...a good sport...having fun seeing his former students.

Blair E. Caboot, Clarks Summit, was stricken ill on Thursday morning [April 18, 2013] while doing what he loved best — teaching his students. After being transferred to the Regional Hospital of Scranton, he died unexpectedly. His widow is the former Betty Reitz. The couple had been married for 41 years.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Dorothy Mickel Caboot. Since retiring in 2006 as the mathematics coordinator for the Abington Heights School District, he was a mathematics professor at Keystone College. He was a member of Embury United Methodist Church, Scranton, where he served as a member of the administrative board, co-chairman of the trustees, co-chairman of the finance committee, as well as a devoted choir member. He was a member of Waverly Lodge 301, Free and Accepted Masons, Keystone Consistory — The Valley of Scranton and Northeast Pennsylvania Council Teachers of Mathematics.

A 1962 valedictorian graduate of West Scranton High School, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from East Stroudsburg University in 1966 and completed his Masters of Science at the University of Scranton in 1969.

Blair will be remembered for his generosity, kindness and dedication to his students whom he had taught over his 48 years of teaching. He had a smile and a contagious laugh that would brighten up any room. His motto was "I don't teach mathematics, I teach students." He loved gardening and most of all his family, who always came first.

Also surviving are a son, Jason, M.D., Major, Medical Corps., U.S. Army, and his wife, Becky, of Gig Harbor, Wash.; a daughter, Jody Wickenheiser and her husband, Ryan, Camp Hill; two brothers, his twin, Blain and wife, Shirl, Moosic; and Gary and wife, Darlene, York; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Andrew Wickenheiser; Lauren, Carter and Alexis Caboot; mother-in-law, Ruth Reitz, Moosic; several nephews, nieces and cousins.

The funeral will be held on Monday [April 22] at 11 a.m. at the Embury United Methodist Church, 942 S. Main Ave., Scranton, with services by the Rev. Linda Eckersley, pastor, and his brother-in-law, the Rev. James Reitz. Interment will follow in Milwaukee Cemetery, Ransom Twp.

Friends may call on Sunday [April 21] from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Blair E. Caboot Scholarship Fund, that will be awarded every year to a senior who excels in mathematics, donations may be sent to the Abington Heights School District, 200 W. Grove St., Clarks Green, PA 18411.
