Michael Scott Hanks, 69, passed away November 28, 2019. He was born April 10, 1950 to Jennie Barbara Blazer and Walter Thurston Smith in Ogden, Utah.

Michael went to Clearfield High School. After high school he served in the U.S. Armed Forces with the Marine Corps. Michael received a National Defense and Vietnam Service Medal, as well as a National Campaign Medal for his services in the Vietnam War. Michael achieved the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged on September 25, 1970.

He was an avid hiker and enjoyed the outdoors. He also was a supporter of the Animal Rights and the Humane Society. He had a love for cats and would adopt one or two wherever he went.

Michael is survived by six children: Holly Ringel, Lisa (Cory) Castillo, Andrea (Steve) Shoun, Kem (Matt) Courtney, Benjamin Hanks, Tiffany (Dan) Amy; three siblings Martha Berglund, Linda Powers, Dewayne Clear and many more nieces and nephews; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Michael is preceded in death by both parents, one sister, four brothers, one brother-in-law, one niece, one nephew, and one grandchild

Funeral Services will be held December 6, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th St., Ogden, UT, with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
