Obituary for David Palmer Varela

David Palmer Varela passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2023 in Ogden, Utah. Dave was born in Maryland on June 5, 1966 to Gabriel Varela and Linda Miller. 

He grew up in Florida, California and settled in Utah. Dave graduated from Clearfield High School in 1984. He served an LDS mission in Oklahoma. He joined the Army and served during the Deseret Storm conflict as a Weapon Specialist and spent 5 years in Germany. 

Dave worked for Lifetime, Smiths Warehouse and for the Department of Veterans Affairs. 

He married Yvonne Friedel, they later divorced. From that union they had 2 sons, David (Bubba) Varela and Anthony (AJ) Varela. He married Candace Vaughn, they later divorced but remained close friends. From that union he became Dad to Shelby Vaughn and Randi Varela. 

He enjoyed fishing, camping and watching football and wrestling. He also Loved to coach his kids sports teams no matter what sport they played. 

Dave is survived by his mother, Ex Wife and Best Friend Candi. His son David (Lorri), Daughters Shelby (Jarin) and Randi. His grandkids Aiden, Ryker, Phoenix, Alexis, Deacon, Everly and new baby in September. His brother Jeremy and sister Mary several Niece’s and Nephew’s. Also survived by numerous Aunts,Uncles and Cousins . He was preceded in death by his Dad, Sister Faith, Son AJ, Nephew Taylor, Father in Law Randy Vaughn and several extended family members. 

Dave’s military honors will be held on July 22, 2023 at 11am. Veterans Memorial Park/Campground. Causey drive Huntsville, UT 84317 Later that evening there’ll be a Celebration of Life for family and close friends at 6pm.
