In Memory

Craig Vestal

As I remember Craig he was someone who kept a low key.  He was funny and kind.  Unfortunately I dont have much more information on his life after West or the exact reason for his passing.  I do know that he passed on September 3, 2002 from a cancer.  He was survived by his wife and two children.

I have some really fond memories of Craig. He was truly a sweetheart and all the years that I knew him in school I never heard him speak ill of anyone. He was quick witted & had a bit of dry sense of humor. He always wanted to get the very best out of life.

Craig and I were close friends from 9th grade till the time of his passing. Craig had a very generous heart and cared about others respectively. We went to the lake together with his family and we also went to the mountains together. On some occasions, we would double date. When I met my wife, Robin, he became close to her, also. His favorite music was Styx, Journey, Bob Segar, and Kansas. I was shocked to learn of his demise because he always had many good things working in his life.

Craig and I lived in the same neighborhood from age 10.  We became friends and around the age 11 we started going sledding in the winter with our friend Steve.
We would all 3 pile up on one sled.  We either sat 3 deep or laying on top of each other and held on to each other as tight as possible trying to stay on the sled.  We would start in front of my house and go as fast as we could down the hill and if we where really lucky then we would make the turn and go until we ran out of speed or crashed.  Most of the time we would crash and end up falling off on top of each other laughing so hard at each other.  We would do this over and over until we where frozen and had to go in.  My dad was a long haul truck driver so he did not get to see our great sledding ritual that first year.  The next winter when that first snow hit, Craig, Steve and I where out on the street with our one sled having a blast.  Well my dad got to watch me for the first time and I guess that he was not too keen on the great trio.  The roads where not in good shape but he drove from Clemmons to Thruway Shopping Center to surprise me with a sled. Not just any sled but a sled just for me.  Other words it was a one person sled.  I was having so much fun with Craig and Steve and I think that dad thought so too.  I loved my new sled and still have it in my attic but I had much more fun laughing and crashing with Craig and Steve.
