Heather Cundiff as remembered was a very kind and upbeat person. After graduating from West Forsyth, she worked for Century 21 Brown Realty and became a loving mother to daughter Krista Noelle Cundiff. She also volunteered at a Battered Womens shelter until her tragic death on October 1994. She was only 32 years old.

My sister Greta and Heather were best friends. Greta and I did not run in the same circles, in fact I didn't really have a circle that socialized, we just saw each other at school.
During college orientation Heather realized I lacked social skills and decided I needed looking after, so where ever Heather went she took me along. Later after she quit or was kicked out of UNC-Wilmington her first semester, she was still in the area and the second semester when I showed up she took it upon herself to help me get into the swing of college party life.
Her former roommate lived a floor above me and when she gave a party one weekend Heather found me and took me to the party. She put my first ever beer in my hand and told me to stay seated till I finished my beer. When she came around a little later she saw I had an unfinished beer in my hand and could not believe that I was still working on that first beer. Happily, I told her it was actually my second.

Heather was a good soul...she was a good friend and I still think of her often. I didn't move to Clemmons until my junior year so the first day of school I didn't know but maybe 2 or 3 people from my neighborhood, so Heather was one of the first people I met on the first day of school. She made me feel very comfortable and we were friends immediately. We grew apart somewhat our senoir year, well we still talked a lot just didn't hang out together as much. She was very Kind hearted and truly wanted to be loved by everyone. She did have a tendency to cross over the line sometime, but it was all in fun, never to hurt anyone...as a matter of fact it was usually to help someone. I crossed over the line with her on several occasions. I crawled out of my bedroom window (2nd floor) one time in my life and it was to meet Heather at the bottom of my street to go help a friend of hers that had ran out of gas. We skipped school 2 times and went to Wrightsville Beach, one of those times we came back so burnt we had to tell where we went and yes we both were grounded and the next time we brought back this beach bum, she felt sorry for him because he had no place to live, but now the poor guy was in Clemmons with no place to live. She hid him in a vacant house on the street behind her house for like 3 or 4 days, it was so funny at the time, I mean we kept him fed and he had blankets and stuff, we didn't know what to do with him. I finally made enough tip money to buy him a bus ticket back to the beach! We camped out in that vacant house several times after that and would wonder about that poor guy. We listened to Crosby, Steel and Nash until we wore the album out! Ms. Nancy (Heathers Mom) would sit and listen with us a lot. Heather considered herself a free spirit and for the most part she was. She loved road trips. She made 3 trips here to Alabama...surprise visits i might add, to see me! I loved them all. She and Krista actually moved here for about 6-8 months when Krista was, maybe 2. Heather got home sick and moved back to Winston Salem and became the Manager of an Apartment complex I think and I do know she had a lot to do with helping women with domestic violence, I think she was a speaker at big events about abuse and violence. She said to me many times that the best thing in her life was "Krista"! She was very proud of her daughter. She was right strict with what Krista ate and watched on T.V. Opposite of what i thought she would be. I kind of lost track of her and then one night i was at work and got a phone call from Miles Cundiff telling me the awful news. It broke my heart because she had always held a piece of it, Heather Cundiff Causey was a good, caring, kind soul and I know she was immediately "Dancing with the Angels" and watching over her precious "Krista"!

Heather, Terri Locklear (anybody remember her? She dated Craig Vestal, sadly also on this memorial page), and I were good buddies together at Kennedy Junior High. Terri moved to Virginia and Heather and I hung out occasionally when we got to West. We were in the French Club and went to her house to work on a cooking project for class. With the help of her mom we fairly successfully produced Coq au Vin (chicken in wine). Another time Heather’s dad took us out for a spin in his DeLorean. I remember hanging out in her room on her waterbed while she pondered if her parents were going to find out about fill-in-the-blank whatever episode she just got away with. Sighhhh. I was very definitely my own person and didn’t let her talk me into any of her gags, but I thought she was a unique and funny girl! She had an infectious laugh. I am shocked to see her on this memorial page. God bless her and her family.
