Forget all that stuff Bonnie, but I did get a new wide seat to make my ride more comfortable instead of that skinny thing that was sticking right up into my butt! and a bottle holder for my water bottle, and a little compartment bag up front to put stuff like my cellphone and whatever in. Now these are necessary things...forget the helmets, and knee pads!

Val
Get a helmet....
I know of 3 folks who had them on and when they went over the handlebars it save them.... One helmet was cut almost in half.... and 2 folks who did not wear a helmet and guess where they are.... dead....
and yes I mean to scare you..... Helmets are required in some cities here.... One guy just died because of not wearing one.....

And happy birthday too... I have a month and 10 days.... yuckkkkkkkk

Happy month and ten days Steven! I do have experience with not wearing helmets, when I lived in Israel when I was around 21 I had a motorcycle accident, was a passenger though, not driving, and fell on my head...boy have I had neck problems my whole life because of it. I do think helmets are important. We just ride our bikes around our neighborhood, it's pretty tame. But thanks for caring! And thanks for your birthday wishes.

Val,
I want to be the first of many to wish you a very happy birthday and thank you for all the time you spend working on this site.

The recent death of the bike rider was a 13 year old who went over the handlebars. Probably just riding around his neighborhood as well!!!!!!!

Thanks Sandie! And I want to thank you for all the help you've given me researching this site and finding names for me and information and all that you do for me! I appreciate you so much. And as far as handlebars go, don't you guys worry about my bicycle riding ability, we are very careful. This one is hard for me though, it is the first bike I ever had with gears, and it has a lot of them, and I have to get used to using the brakes with my hands instead of my feet. Now that's something that they say is hard to teach an old dog new tricks...we'll see how it goes..and a four day premature happy birthday to you!

With gears and handbrakes wear a helmet.. My uncle bought a house from a widow of a man who got a bike for his 50 birthday. He never had handbrakes before... and went over the handlebars and died.... They take some time to get use to....

Oh great Steven, I can't wait to ride this bike!! Hey guys, thanks for all my birthday wishes! Appreciate it. I'm having a horrible morning so far, I made airline reservations last night for our reunion trip in Oct. and I used the names that we go by....Tom and Val....NOOOOOOOO...you can't do that..you have to use the names that are on your drivers licenses now...Now I have to get Delta AND Priceline to change them. That could take the rest of my life...So, remember, there is a new ruling, your names have to be what is on your drivers licenses or forget it, you go into an abyss and never get out!!!

Val, Have a healthy, happy birthday. Be safe and enjoy your bike, what a cool gift! Thanks for the airline update.

Val Iberall (O'Connor)

Thanks Clare. Here's some more update...I just got off the phone with the TSA (Traffic Security Administration) because Delta told me I should call them to check with them and they just told me that we would be going through extra security, will get patted down and questioned and screened up the wing wang, Tom is going to KILL me when he finds out about this...oyoyoy what the heck did I do!! And Priceline won't change the name on the tickets because they are untransferable and would charge hundreds of dollars to redo them. I love flying, just love it! All I wanted to do all along was drive there...

Val

it sounds like the TSA is driving you home

09/10/09 04:05 PM #2621

Val Iberall (O'Connor)

Thanks Joel! Louie, I'm so afraid to tell Tom what they said. I swear, I just want to chuck it all and get in the car like we had planned originally, flying is so stupid these days. My son just moved back to San Diego with the navy for a year from here in Fl and it took him 4 days to drive there. How long could it possibly take us to drive to Chicago and then on to Cleve....I dread flying..

09/10/09 04:47 PM #2622

Sandie Kanter (Fine)

Val,
Don't be silly. They don't have to pat you down anymore. They have a new screening machine that shows your whole body sans clothes!!! I know Cleveland is one of the test cities, maybe even Chicago. It might be easier just to get driver's licenses with your nicknames, lol.

09/10/09 05:10 PM #2623

Val Iberall (O'Connor)

Well they pat down here that's for sure. When I went to Calif recently I saw 6 security people go in like flies on people at the entrance of the airplane. And I"m ready to get rid of my first name and last name. No computer anywhere handles the apostrophe in the last name and I hate my given first name. Whatever. I can complain, it's my birthday!

Val Iberall (O'Connor)

Just got back from dinner, my husband took me to a really nice restaurant and during dinner he brought up the airline thing so I told him, wasn't going to until tomorrow. Told him we'd have to get there 2 hours early and they were going to pat us down and screen us and ask a bunch of questions. Well he didn't blow his top afterall.

Val
the new screening machine that shows your whole body i think you can ask for 8x10's

09/11/09 09:40 AM #2626

Val Iberall (O'Connor)

Wallet size would be better, then I can use them at the next airports and just pass them on to the security people there and not have go through the screening again.

Sandie Kanter (Fine)

Val,
I think a sudden name change would set off more alarms, even with the wallet size photos! Good timing on telling your husband over your BD dinner, leaving him no choice but to be ok with it, lol.

Val Iberall (O'Connor)

Hey Sandie, now we have to get ready for your birthday!! Happy 3 more days!

09/11/09 01:12 PM #2629

gee wiz sandie catching up to me.... Of course I will be 59 in one month and 8 days but the only one counting is my dear wife Wendy.... and only because she is already 59!!!!!

PARTY at sandie's

09/11/09 03:29 PM #2631

Val Iberall (O'Connor)

I want to come too! Hey Louie! Sandie never looks at this site, let's plan a surprise party for her, her birthday is Monday, why don't you all just show up at her door step and bring stuff to eat and drink and yell surprise! She'll love it!

09/12/09 10:11 AM #2632

Sandie Kanter (Fine)

Val,
I see you're trying to deflect the attention away from your own BD, lol. At my age, a surprise party would probably give me a heart attack, but it would be fun though!! Speaking of age, Steven, I'm only going to be 58 so either I'm "young" or your memory is going.

Did anyone ever get the facebook page started for our adult children? My son is interested in joining and looking for a soulmate or a least someone to hang around with in Cleveland.
