We were lucky. Both missed us. But, it was kinda exciting. Thanks for all your concern.

Hi Chuck,

So glad you made it through the hurricane...Thinking of you and your family over there in Hawaii. This is our "monsoon" season, but we have not had nearly as much rain as past summers.

Looking at pics from the reunion, and it looks like everyone who attended had a great time. Our class seems to be aging fairly well. I am busy launching my small custom baking business: Look up my page on Facebook under Sheryl's Sweets & Treats. Hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the summer. Very much looking forward to some cooler weather.

Did the schools closed when we were there for the Jewish Holidays... or did we always have to bring a note???

L'Shanah Tovah! As I remember, back in our day, the schools were closed both for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. I don't ever remember having to bring a note. It was so different for my kids here in Tucson. We were the minority, and I always had to write a note, and my boys always had to make up any work they missed on those days. At work, I always took those days off as personal days, so it was never a problem.

This past year has been a rough year for our family. We are looking forward to a better New Year. Wishing all of you a Healthy, Happy, Prosperous New Year!

Sheryl

Actually, I do not recall the schools being closed when we were there. But practically no students were in school. I went once on Rosh Hashana just to see... And left before noon. HS was almost empty!

I think the policy changed at some point during our time either in junior high or high school.  I remember that at Wiley there was a "present" list during some of our years there, including the teachers who were "present".  It was a very short list!  But later on the schools were closed on the first day of Rosh Hashanah and on Yom Kippur, for at least a couple of our years of high school.

I, too, remember the schools being open on Rosh Hashonah and Yom Kippur when we were growing up. My non-Jewish friends would tell me about how barren the schools were on those days, and about how few of the teachers attended. When did it change? I don't remember it changing when we were at Heights, but it may have. I know the policy had been changed already soon after we graduated, though.

I remember the schools being open all the time, and the halls were nearly empty.  It was the "norm".  The schools were NEVER closed!!

It was a big deal when they stopped having football games during the High Holy days, but I believe that the schools were NOT closed!

If the policy changed, it was during our senior year. I went to school on one of the holidays during our junior year (1967-1968). School was very in session but there were almost no students there. Even those who were not Jewish didn't go to school.

these were considered excused absences for all of us...no tests were allowed to be given. Really...it was a waste of time for the teachers and those few students who did go to school. The class lessons were all repeated the day after the holidays.

It is with my utmost sincerity and regret that I have to announce  that my long awaited triumphant return back to Cleveland, will have to be placed on hold until next year when Labron will once again have the opportunity to deliver a championship.
