Val Iberall (O'Connor)

I am glad everyone is enjoying the pictures. I'm enjoying putting them on as much as you are enjoying looking at them! I hope you all keep sending them in, it would be great if someone would come up with some names for the Coventry Elementary School pictures. Also missing a bunch of Millikin Elementary pictures and the Fairfax pictures still waiting for some useable photos that can be seen and will need a lot of names for those when they come in. I would love to put some more reunion pictures on if anyone has them available. The Then and Now page is going to take me a long time to finish it but if you email me your pictures it would probably go faster, otherwise I am going down the list alphabetically looking for photos. It's been great reconnecting with you and meeting others of you for the first time. Keep em coming: magnumpi95@bellsouth.net

Hey Bill..

I remember Nagels'.... It was at the corner just East of the Center Mayfield Theater.... on the north side...

They sold 3.2 beer...

Val, you are missing a TON of Taylor pictures. There were SIX of each grade at that school. I only went there for sixth grade and I only have my picture (which I have "conveniently misplaced"...it's pretty awful). You have Mr. Wheeler's sixth grade, but there were five others...ditto fifth grade, fourth grade and so on.

Thanks so much for doing all the work you are doing!!

Well, all you Taylor people need to get to work and look in your bookshelves and boxes for your pictures. I can't work with them unless you give them to me!! And names..think..go into your hidden places in your memory banks and get them out!

Bill Kent

Thanks Scott. I had a feeling it was around that neck of the woods.

Another Taylor memory popped into my head.......anybody remember we had KID crossing guards!!! We would cross the kids with a flag to stop the traffic-can you imagine THAT today? When we were done the kid farthest from school would yell(I think!) "flag in" to the next closest until it reached the kid closest to school......unbelievable! We're talking elementary kids!!!

I was a crossing guard and not only did we yell, "flag in", we did this flag wave at the same time. I remember the day of graduation, there was a shortage of crossing guards, so I volunteered for duty and at graduation, I was awarded a certificate for "Outstanding Citizenship"

Here in Florida, we have retired people crossing the children, who can barely cross themselves......let alone the children!

I remember the "flag in" thing. Yep...we also did this fancy flag waving in like a figure eight in front of us. I guess it was so that the person far away would see...who knows. My recollection was that it was some kind of "honor" to be selected to be a crossing guard. Heaven knows why. Bonnie, maybe it was just preparing us for crossing guard jobs as seniors:)

crossing guards at Taylor.... Most of the kids (I was one) was envious of the crossing guards.... they got to leave school early and had power.... Of course we did not think of the times they stood in the rain....and snow....

Hi! I'm taking just a moment to join and post. I'll be back later to complete my profile. I just had to chime in and say that we (crossing guards) were called "safety's" at Taylor Road. For some reason I remember that, but that's about all I remember!! I think you had to have certain grades to get the position. I for one let the power go to my head. I apologize to all the students who I screamed "STOP" at when they were running. They were probably late to school or trying to get home quickly.

Do any of you remember me? I think I must've been one of nerdiest kids in the high school.

Sandie

WOW!
Hi Sandie!! You were NEVER a nerd!
I remember "flag in"! I also remember it being an honor. Do you remember Freddie? (Was that his name?) He was the REAL crossing guard (maybe an otherwise retired policeman) for the BIG intersection of Taylor Road/Washington Boulevard.
Do you remember how simple the playground was by today's standards and how much we were able to do with it? How many times we could somersault around those bars that were at waist level? Try one now. :=)
Or how hard we were allowed to hit each other with the ball playing dodgeball.
Was there a "little kids playground" built when we were a little older or did we have it when we were little?

I also wish that some more of the Taylor photos could be found. I sent in mine (and it wasn't easy) and I'm looking for more. Val, you've been doing a spectacular job with these pictures!

Mitch's tribute to Carter and his family was inspiring and heartwarming. And Steve's tribute to Cassie was so loving and beautiful. I share everyone's sentiments that we are so lucky to be reconnecting with each other in this very appreciative and reflective time of our lives. We've had enough true joys and heartbreaks to be able to empathize with those who have had harsher experiences.

I, for one, feel honored to be part of this community that is forming 40 years later. Thank you all.

Flag in...had a sing songy quality to it...you didn't just yell.

Hi Sandie....glad you finally made it to the site. Being
the 4th grade spelling champion(you beat me out) does not
qualify you as a nerd. Far from it. You were a really nice kid. I'll put my hand up as another Taylor safety.
Steve is right....it was a job that other kids envied.

Steven, (did we used to call you Stevie?)
We must arrange a Berkshire reunion right before the main reunion. We could include my sis/bro, Anne's sis/bros and Marcy (remember her?) I have no idea where Janet is and was wondering about Robin Coombs as well.
I think I'm as old as my parents were when they used to square dance, maybe older,oy.

Good hearing from you Bob, (my spelling is still decent, how about you?)did you get the link to the band photos I sent you?

Anne, I'll email you when I have more time.

Thanks for the nice welcome.

Debbie Dorsky (Meitin)

Hi Sandie,

I remember you too. My parents did lots of square dancing too, maybe they knew your parents. I'll write you separately about it.

I've been really busy for the last week or so and didn't sign on at all - wow, I missed so much!!

I really appreciated the tributes to the special children, Mitch and Steve. I have learned that we just do what we have to do for the people we love. That certainly was my situation. When we got married, my husband was already diagnosed with MS and it continued to get worse over the years. It was often a struggle, especially for him, but together we did the best we could and had a great marriage for the 20 years we were blessed to have together. Sorry, I hope I'm not being too maudlin (sp?).

I agree with Lesley - what a marvelous group of people we became and what amazing accomplishments. And most of our "found" classmates haven't even posted on this message forum. I've really enjoyed reading about everyone's lives.

We need to make the reunion for the entire weekend to be able to talk to everyone!!

Many thanks to Val on the picture posting. I actually found the bags of "memorabilia" from Hts. and will sort through to find any goodies to post. I also think I must have pictures from our reunions somewhere.

Ask Len Redon as to what happend to Cheryl. It seems that they were related through marriage between their parents.....

Sandy

Being that I lived behind you and spent a lot of time at your house, I remember your parents square dancing and thought that your mom's dress was so cool!

Steve

Jan Solomon is still in Cleveland, she was a para professional at Agnon for many years.

Steve

I do know where Janet Solomon is as I have seen her off and on for the last umteen years. I didn't know that she went to Taylor. When I met her at Park Synagogue, she was living in Shaker (I believe). I will contact her about getting in touch. She no longers works for Agnon but sits for families.

Bob: Sounds great about a Taylor Reunion. There are enough of us still around in town to set it up.

I haven't had time to tell Steve and Mitch how touching your stories are. This site has really opened alot of connecting with one another.
Also please everyone who reads this and hasn't posted pictures of yourself at the present and kids please do .
Val is working very hard to post the pictures under Then And Now.

Sue Katz:

Janet Solomon graduated with me from Beachwood High School. We were joined at BHS by the following CH-UH system "alums" (likely an incomplete list):

Dan Buchler
Peggy Kornreich
Ronny Kaye
Steve Williger (my close friend for 48 years!)
Judi Magid
Howard Bacal
Lola Farron
Larry November

Quite a history that is being recovered in this Forum!
