You know...I don't honestly remember exactly how I got the part. I do recall that it was a bit last minute...I didn't have a lot of rehearsal time. I was probably the only other one who auditioned who wasn't cast. Miss Parker couldn't stand me...the feeling was quite mutual. I had Miss Parker and Miss Dick the SAME year....how mean was THAT?

I'm not sure about Miss Parker or Miss dick, but some names Steven is mentioning may of got in trouble for sexual abuse (maybe rutan), they used to lift girls up so they could reach bulleten board better, but we know what he really was doing--I am not sure if he got caught or if that was correct name-
now a days some of those roosevelt teachers would definitely be in trouble.I am sure others may know this fact ,so come on rooseveltites give us the info.

Speaking of junior high "plays," those of us who attended Roxboro may recall the annual musicals Miss Lawrence produced and directed. I was in the chorus for both "HMS Pinafore" in seventh grade and "The Mikado" in eighth grade. David Hildner enjoyed prominent roles in both. I think he sang Ralph Rackstraw in the former and the title role in the latter, although I could be wrong. I had a small (very small) part in our ninth grade production of "Brigadoon" as Angus McGuffie (one of the words in my script was "philanthropic," which I'd never heard, and I thought the accent was on the second syllable - which got a big laugh in rehearsal), and I believe Hildner played Harry Beaton. I also recall Carol Wismar as Jane Ashton and Bill Carroll as Charlie Dalrymple, but my memory fades on any other starring roles for the three productions. Anyone else have a better memory than me? Oh, and Karen Krenzel (Class of '70 and married for a short time to one of my best friends, Ira Goldberg) played Meg something-or-other.

In keeping with an earlier theme (crushes) - I had a crush on Carol Wismar from seventh grade all the way through twelfth. I seriously doubt she ever knew it, either.

Hi Folks,
Sorry I haven't visited the message forum for a while. I've had some distractions. My youngest son is surfing in Indonesia and doesn't believe in keeping us updated. I, as the MOM, have trouble with that. We just bought him a "Spot" tracer (and I am considering going over there and shoving it down his throat myself).
My other Eagle Scout son caught the side of the house on fire an hour before the first seder after having made some incredible homemade lox ("smoked" salmon). We invited the firemen to the seder, but they didn't stay. We started the seder half hour late and, after $1500/deductible, we have a new side of our house, some new wiring, a couple of new doors, windows, sconces, and fencing! We'll get the whole house painted, although we have to contribute some to that, etc.

1) So, Happy Mother's Day to all of us!
2) Rachel Rosenfeld went to Taylor.
3) I don't remember a 9th grade play at Roosevelt, either.
4) I heard my name being used in vain regarding Music Man. Per the program:
James Nolish - Harold HIll
Denise Milner - Marian Paroo
Dan Salat - Marcellus Washburn
Bob Shafran - Mayor Shinn
Phil Baron - Tommy Djilas
Sally Braun - Zanetta Shinn
Mary Beth Revelt - Eulalie MacKecknie Shinn
David Hildner - Winthrop Paroo
Ava Bloom - Mrs. Paroo
Laurin Fink - Charlie Cowell
Gary Wynbrandt - Ewart Dunlop
Mark Hein - Oliver Hix
Philip Walker - Jacey Squires
David Woodring - Olin Britt
Gary Konn - Conductor
Philip Walker - Jacey Squires
Susanne Clark - Amaryllis
Kay Ente - Gracie Shinn
Susan Wefel - Alma Hix
Barbara Schwarz - Maud Dunlop
Barbara Wismar - Ethel Toppelmier
Judy Wolinsky - Mrs. Squires
Gary Kohn - Constable Locke
Then there were also River City townspeople and kids, dancers, chorus, orchestra, stage crew, ushers, publicity, costumes, ticket sales, properties, concessions (led by Scott Poffenberger), prompter, rehearsal accompanist, more.
When I get a chance, I'll scan the whole program to Val.

Anne -- Thanks tons for the "Music Man" roster. I was a member of the chorus and had one solo line during the number "Wells Fargo Wagon" -- "I hope I get my raisins from Fresno." Bart Polot called me "Fresno" the whole rest of the school year.

I was such a horrible dancer (and I still suck) that Mac pointed to me during one rehearsal and said something like, "You, the tall guy in back (this was the year before I joined choir) -- umm, why don't you just hang back until the song's over."

On a separate note, Anne, maybe the fireman would have hung around if you had taken time to point out the "burnt offering" on the Seder plate?

Paul,
I'll try to remember your suggestion for next year. Hmmmm, maybe next year we can get a new BACK to the house and the following year we can get a new FRONT!

Working stage crew in high school saved me... It was fun and allowed me to climb to new heights...(joke intended folks) to get on we had to walk over the arch over the stage...I am sure that would be a problem today....

Perry,
I like the idea of Facebook for our "kids-of-Heights '69", but how do we get our kids to like it?

Meanwhile, while we're on the subject: My daughter just received her BS in Economics this past weekend and is moving to Orlando next weekend. Her boyfriend just got a job as a bank auditor there.
Does anyone in our class live there? Know the area? Know any jobs?

05/12/09 02:39 PM #1501

Anne,

I guess best way is to ask if our kids want to be involved.since many kids have over 1000 on their face book ,I guess a few more would be ok.I will ask my kids ,but I'm sure they would do it. I think if they all say they are kids of the 69 heights tigers, they will accept as friends on facebook----the start is putting our kids names somewhere if we (or they are intersted)--networking for the young sounds cool and could be nice for the kids in man ways///thanx

Charles, (Chuck) Balcher

Just got a call from Mitch Fadem, who will be in Hawaii, due to his tour with the air force. He'll be calling me in an hour, so that we can meet for lunch and do some sightseeing. I have to thank Ms. Parker,(Roosevelt), for teaching good grammar. I guess you can learn something from anybody!

You may all recall a post from me about jobs for my son the trumpet performance major...well HE GOT A JOB!!!

He will be the second trumpet player with the Synergy Brass Quintet beginning June 7. He is thrilled and so are we. You can do a quick google search for Synergy Brass and read all about them.

His first performance with them is at the Rockport Chamber Music Festival (MA), and then the next one is in Zurich.

So...anyone want to hire a great brass quintet for concert, master classes, or both??

I just got through the alphabet for the Classmate Network page. So if I missed anyone, please let me know. I also just started a new pet section on the bottom of the Photo Albums page but it's too much work going through the alphabet again so if anyone has a photo of your pet/s for me to put on there, email it to me or put it on your profile and let me know that you put it there. Try taking a picture of multiple pets in a group shot. Also, I find it unbelievable that EVERY photo that was taken from the 10th, 20th, and 30th reunions or anyother reunions have already been submitted. I know you guys can do better than this. Keep looking through your old photo albums and find me some stuff. Also, without people updating their profiles with their latest pics of themselves, the Then and Now page is going to stand the way it is now. There is only a handful of people on there, this class has over 1000 in it....
