It is so sad that Michael passed away. He had such a super sense of humor. I had a crush on him from the first moment I laid eyes on him at Wiley Jr. High School's orientation. We had a lot of fun together from carving pumpkins in my basement to dancing together to the Monkey's albums. (remember the Monkey's)? At parties I remember slow dancing with him all night long. I thought it was love... We even met up again after we both attended college. I was crushed when I heard about his passing. He was my first love and a really fun friend. I have such fond memories of him and I still smile when I think of him. Nadine Meclovsky Lader

I spent my entire Spring break wondering how dark a tan Michael Derin would have when he got back from Florida. He was so handsome..and funny..and kind....his death was a terrible loss to all those who knew him...his ID bracelet circulated among more girls...he was fond of so many and so many were fond of him....wish I had just one day to spend with him..we'd laugh all day!

i had to write on michael's wall...everyone was shocked upon learning of his death. i remember thinking how could i have not known he was suffering?? he always had a smile a made me laugh. i remember temple a park synagogue: in 9th grade we had to take temple finals(of aLL things), and mike decided that, as we all sat around a round table we should PRINT OUR ANSWERS IN PENCIL-- then when he sneezed we would simultaneously all shift our tests to the person on our right. we would fill in answers for each other and each time he sneezed the process would continue until you ended up with your own test in front of you..! we thought we were sooo smart--we could not stop giggling throughout the whole process. (nadine Mc. and jill, do you remember this???

I was very sad to learn of Michael's passing in the late 70's .I was in St. Louis at the time in training and was quite shocked when my mother called me about the news. If your ever heard the song "Richard Corey" by Simon and Garfunkel, that was Michael. From 4th through 8th grade he was my closest friend. He had everything, wit, humour, looks athletic ability and oh yes, the girls loved him. We had the same sense of humour , same interests and view of the world. We went to parties and school trips together, and csrpooled to sabbath school together.Because of him I was introduced to the world of overnight camp, dancing school, and country clubs.

He was the best and closest male friend I ever had . When I see and read profiles of my classmates who are still close, I think of Michael and how much I miss him. Michael left a loving wife and 3 now grown children.

Rest in peace Michael. We will never forget you.
