If I remember correctly, Claudette was one of the few black students at CHHS. I remember that some of the teachers in the school were prejudiced and actively expressed it.

Mr. Weltman, a history teacher, was one of those and Claudette would sit very quietly while he expressed what I considered racist comments. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for Claudette and other black students in that predominantly white school.

I remember her as being a very nice person.

It was very hard going to CH schools at that time. Claudette and I use to visit one another before I moved from CH. She was in my homeroom with Mr. Fusco and he always gave us encouraging  words of wisdom to cope with the prejudice from a few students and teachers during those times. I remember how she always hit homeruns while we were at Roosevelt. Claudette was always very nice and funny to be with. I am so sorry to hear of her demise. R.I.P. Claudette, I will always remember you!

I liked Claudette. She was funny, full of life, and didn't take guff from anyone.

I do remember a time when she had an issue with a fellow student.

As she chased him down the hall, he thought he'd be safe by ducking into the boys restroom.

He found out quite quickly, just how wrong he was.

I'm sure glad I was on her good side.

I'm very sorry to hear that she passed away at such an early age.
