In Memory

Carl Seid

I am very saddened to tell you that on Friday night, January 3rd, our friend Carl "Budgie" Seid passed away.  He had a courageous 17 month fight with pancreatic cancer. Budge didn't want a funeral with a lot of hoopla but we will plan some kind of memorial gathering to remember him sometime later in the year. For now, let's remember our good friend with lots of love. Rest In Peace, Budge!

Here's the official obit that is being sent to the newspapers:

Carl Alan (Budgy) Seid, 70, died on January 3, 2025 from Pancreatic Cancer. The son of the late Herman Seid, longtime photographer at the Cleveland Press and the late Judith (Nahamkin) Seid, an RN, Carl is survived by his brothers, Robert (Ilene Zeiger) and Barry (Gael Buhlert), his nephew Nick Seid (Amelia Guzman-Seid) and his lifelong friends , Jon Lief, Al Glickson, Cary Hodous, Mindi Bonde and Hal Becker, as well as the many other devoted friends who supported him during his illness. He will be remembered as a funny, quirky, caring son, brother, and friend. After graduating Cleveland Heights High School in 1972, Carl received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bowling Green State University in 1976. After several decades in the television industry working as a news photographer and editor both in Cleveland and in Florida, he turned his childhood passion for baseball cards into an internet business, eventually branching out into other memorabilia sales. Carl was an avid softball player and lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians, now the Guardians. In 1971 he was instrumental in forming the Doo-Wops, a Cleveland based 1950s-style rock-and-roll band. The band reunited in 2009 and made numerous appearances in the area including an annual event at Cleveland’s famed Cain Park. A memorial is planned for later this year.

I am truly sorry to hear this.  Al, please keep me informed about any memorials you do.  I reconnected with Budge via FB but only saw him for about 20 seconds a few years ago.  He still looked like Budgie.  May his memory be eternal.
