In Memory

Stephen Unger

from 40th reunion memory book - submitted by Alec Bigelson 12/8/04

I regret to inform you that Steve Unger passed away from a stroke about six years ago.  Steve lived a very interesting life, having been a pilot, working his way up to flying jumbos for Contintental Airlines.  He also worked as a corporate pilot for an Israeli company, Yoshvi Engineering, during the 70's.  He had apartments in Rome and Nairobi from where he worked.  This company was actually a cover for the Mossad.  Steve flew their specially designed aircraft throughout the middle east while Israel still had diplomatic relations with many of the Arab countries.  On several of his trips to Baghdad he used hidden cameras in the nose of the aircraft to take photographs of the location of the Iraqi facility where they were trying to develop nuclear weapons.  Israel used this information to destroy the Iraqi sites.  For his work, Steve was personally recognized, and met with, Prime Ministers Menachem Begin and Golda Meir.
