Robert Cornell Van Epps Jr., 66, was born March 24, 1946, in Cleveland.
Bob lost his long battle with bladder cancer Jan. 16, 2013. He passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving wife and two sons.
Bob was a graduate of Cleveland Heights High School. He served in the U.S. Army as an Infantryman and Reconnaissance Scout with the 4th Infantry Division in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967. He volunteered to be a tunnel rat on multiple missions, demonstrating his courage in combat. He was a true American patriot and honored to serve his country.

Bob retired from the IBM Corporation after 26 years. His career started in administration and later he became a systems engineer and manager. After retiring from IBM, he worked for three different computer companies in similar roles.

His pastimes included golfing with his buddies, cheering on all of the Cleveland sports teams, especially the Indians, Ohio State football and basketball, and the Army Black Knights football team. He loved watching old movies, reading, and doing Sudoku puzzles.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Barbara (nee Rich); sons, Cpt. Matthew (Meredith) Van Epps, U.S. Army, 160th SOAR (A), and Cpt. Joshua Van Epps, U.S. Army, currently serving with the 101st Airborne Division (AA) in Afghanistan.; mother, Marjorie; sister, Judith (Philip) Toy; brother, Doug (Marilyn); and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Van Epps Sr.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St., (Route 615, north of Route 2), Mentor.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
