Dr. Robert Eckel, 45, neurologist      (dated Washington DC, Sept. 3, 1993)

   Dr. Robert W. Eckel was a former Cleveland Heights resident who became a leading neurologist and wrote chapters on the subject for medical school textbooks.  He most recently specialized in electromyography, the testing of muscle tissue, with the Kaiser Permanente medical group in Kensington, Md.

   Dr. Eckel, 45, died at Georgetown University Hospital....  He had cancer.

   Born in Cleveland, he graduated from Cleveland Heights High School, Dartmouth College, and the medical school of Case Western Reserve University.

   Dr. Eckel was a member of the professional advisory board of the Epilepsy Foundation of the Washington area and the Montgomery County Medical Society in Maryland.  He was elected to the board of the American Academy of Neurology and was a member of the AMA and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

   Dr. Eckel attended St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Washington, where he taught Sunday School, acted in a theater group and helped stage Monday Night Musicales for young performers.

                                                                        * * * * *

Although I didn't know Bob Eckel well, he was a fellow member of Concert Band I and the Symphony Orchestra at Heights, and I think he, like all of our deceased classmates, deserves to be remembered.
