I always liked Bea.  She was uniformly cheerful and friendly.  By way of coincidence, I now live in Washington State, my older son lives in Northern Virginia, and my younger son graduated from the University of Southern California and worked there for 10 years in the Cinema School.

I got the following from the Cleveland Jewish News archive Jan 23, 1998.  The original was a scan of the actual newspaper article.  I could not figure out how to cut and paste it so I transcribed it as best as I could.

Beatrice Barnett

Beatrice Barnett (nee Weiner), a music teacher in the Fairfax County, VA, schools for 19 years, died on Jan. 9 (1998) at the age of 49.  She was also a teacher in the Fairfax Summer Arts Program and organized workshops at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC and at Wolf Trap Farm Park for the Performing Arts.  She served on the executive boards of the Fairfax General Music Educators and the Mid-Atlantic chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.

During the 1970s Mrs. Barnett lived in Germany and taught music in the US Department of Defense school system.  She received the Department of the Army outstanding teacher award in 1977.  A native of Longview, Washington, she grew up in Cleveland, graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and was a confirmand of Anshe Chesed-Fairmount Temple.  She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin and a master's degree in education from the University of Southern California.

Surviving Mrs. Barnett are her husband, John C., and a daughter, Alexandra, both of Falls Church, VA; her mother Evelyn A. Weiner; father, Harry S. Weiner; and a sister, Lisa Weiner of San Francisco.
