BRAINARD ALAN JOSEPH Age 80, of Pittsburgh, PA, on May 23, 2017. Beloved husband of 53 years to Judy (Mansor) Brainard. Loving father of John (Jennifer Barkin) Brainard and Paul (Ewa Kern-Jedrychowska); cherished grandfather of Sarah, Jonah, Vivienne, and Hannah; devoted brother of Ardythe Getts; uncle of Gregory and Gayle Getts and families.

Alan was an associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh in the field of chemical engineering. He was an educator and a student of life, a Renaissance man with diverse interests. He was known for his fondness of turtles, with a collection of hundreds of figurines spanning many decades. He will be well-remembered for his jokes and sense of humor.
