Who was your favorite teacher?

This was a topic I wanted to post before the reunion.  I have fond memories of Miss Schlie, Mr. Townsend (he inspired me to get my B.A. in Sociology) and Mrs. Voigt, but my very favorite teacher was Henry Cotton.  He was kind and fair and FUNNY, and truly had a heart for his students.  He was only my teacher for one semester but had a profound effect on my education and taught me the skill I use every day of my life to this day.

In later years he became friends with my parents through the retired teacher's association, and came to both of their funeral visitations.  That meant the world to me.  The day he died Mike Stevenson called me.  Mike had been his neighbor for years.  Mike told me the best story about Hank. I had not known that he had been at Pearl Harbor when they were attacked. Henry was given the duty of rounding up the dead and placing them in body bags.  He and another soldier had bagged up one guy, only to see him walking around later!  That was such a great Mr. Cotton story!  If I  remember correctly, he died on Veteran's Day and they had his memorial service on Pearl Harbor Day.  That was a fitting tribute for such a humble yet outstanding man!

I'd like to hear from classmates about the teachers who influenced  their school lives.

I actually have two favorites 1)Miss Sharon Wahl and 2) Mrs. Nancy Alexander.  I have a love for American History and I owe this to Miss Wahl.  In later years when my daughter Jennifer had Miss Whal as her teacher, she was able to help Jennifer with her reading disability.  Miss Wahl took on the project of helping Jen and due to the special caring Jen is now working toward becoming a Physical Therapist.  I can never repaid her for all she did, but can truly remember what an upstanding person she was and is.  Mrs. Alexander was always there for not just me but anyone who needed someone to listen to their problems and guide them with necessary decisions.  In my adults years I made the decision to become catholic and she became my Godmother.  I lost track of her after she left the Clifton Area, but think of her often.
