Following an aggressive battle with Amyloidosis and Multiple Myeloma, Larry passed at UT Hospital in Knoxville, TN. A devoted family man he leaves behind sorrow and devastation in those who love him yet know that he is at peace.
Larry was born to George and Anne Cooley in Paducah, KY. After several moves while growing up he made his home in Knoxville. He graduated from Clinton High School and University of Tennessee Knoxville. Larry received a bachelor’s degree in Finance in 1985. His communication and social skills led him to be very successful in sales and business advertising which became his career.
Aside from his hard working standards, Larry knew how to enjoy life. He loved the outdoors, whether applying his God given talents in landscaping or being in nature. Larry was an avid hunter and his favorite pastime was hunting with his two sons. All skilled at archery, they spent many days together hunting deer, elk, and turkey as well as fly fishing.
Larry’s dream was to have his own farm for he and his boys to work and hunt on. This dream came true in March 2024. He worked so hard on preparing the farm beyond most people’s expectations only to discover the nature and limitations of his illness.
Larry fought a hard battle courageously. He leaves a large void in the hearts of those he left behind. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Danise Williamson Cooley and their two sons Cameron (wife Kate) and Cade (fiancé Meredith); Larry’s sister Cathy Cooley Smith (husband Doug); several nieces and nephews and in-laws.
A visitation for Larry will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Berry Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919, followed by a celebration of life at 3:00 PM. We hope all his many friends can attend. Those who knew him well know Larry loved trees, shrubs, and a beautiful lawn but did not care for cut flowers.
