Tammy Poston Calvert
Oak Ridge - 10/30/61 – 3/23/22
Tammy Poston Calvert, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee peacefully became an Angel in Heaven on the morning of Wednesday, March 23, 2022 surrounded by family at Shore Point Hospital in Punta Gorda, Florida at the young age of 60 after a short but courageous battle with breast cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years John Gregory Calvert, son Samuel P. Calvert of Knoxville, TN and step-daughter Julie D. Calvert of Oak Ridge, TN, mother Charlotte Spoon Poston of Clinton, TN, grandchildren Megan McCroskey, Jonathan Ellis, Breana Ellis, Lane Coffey and Grant Coffey-Calvert. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Lynn Calvert, Doug Calvert and Gary Calvert (Linda) as well as sister-in-law Karen Calvert Baker (Mike) all of Oak Ridge. She also leaves behind Kate Coffey, mother of her grandchildren Lane and Grant. , many aunts and uncles and many cousins, nephews and nieces including special cousin Donna Spoon Lea (John) of Steinhatchee, FL. She leaves also many special friends from Oak Ridge, Knoxville and Punta Gorda, too many to name.
She was preceded in death by her father Samuel L. Poston in 2020 and by her maternal grandparents Raymond and Lynnis Spoon, her paternal grandmother Maggie L. Poston, Augusta, GA and by her mother and father-in-law Opal and Oney Calvert of Oak Ridge as well as special cousins Steve, Eddie and Rachel and also Mark Anthony Ellis, father of grandchildren Jonathan and Breana Ellis.
She was born October 30, 1961 in Orlando, FL in 1961 and lived briefly in Ormond Beach, FL before the family moved to Clinton, TN. She attended schools in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School in 1979 having been a member of the marching band for four years having become first chair flutist.
She grew up in the country near South Clinton and as a youth enjoyed spending time with her parents on Norris Lake and enjoyed spending weekends with her cousins in Walland, TN and with her Papaw and Granny Spoon on their farm off of Middlebrook Pike in Knox County.
After high school she worked briefly at Bonanza Steak House in Oak Ridge then enlisted in the United States Army. Afterwards she held various jobs working at Profitt's Department Store in Oak Ridge for several years. She then became an administrative clerk with Farmers Insurance, legal clerk for a Law Firm in Oak Ridge, administrative clerk for the Oak Ridge Housing Authority, then became a Branch Officer Administrator for Edwards Jones Investments in Oak Ridge. She had also worked as a teacher's aide and substitute teacher for Oak Ridge Schools.
She enjoyed arts and crafts and was a very accomplished painter, often selling her items at arts and crafts shows or gifting them to family and friends.
She enjoyed being a band parent while son Samuel was a member of the Oak Ridge High School Marching Band and enjoyed attending summer band camps as a chaperone.
Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren and spending time in she and her husband's part-time home in Punta Gorda, Florida for six months each year. She was a member of Oak Ridge Elks Lodge 1684 and enjoyed time there with friends and especially enjoyed spending a lot of time at the Punta Gorda Elks Lodge with the many friends she and her husband had made there.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Shorepoint Medical Center in Punta Gorda for their dedicated care for Tammy including Dr. Kamal, Dr. Nguyen, and nurses Allyson, Diana, Abel, Patrick, Rachel, Tammie, Elaine Capezzi and many others. Additionally thanks are given to Dr. Christopher Lobo, Julie Pauly, and the nurses and staff at Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute in Port Charlotte as well as Dr. John Foust at University Cancer Specialists in Knoxville.
A Celebration of Life will be held for her at the Punta Gorda Elks Lodge Saturday April 2nd at 1:00.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held in the coming weeks at Anderson Memorial Gardens near Oak Ridge followed by a Celebration of Life to be held at the Oak Ridge Elks Lodge. Dates and times of those events are pending at this time but will be announced once finalized.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, the American Cancer Society or in the form of pet food or pet supplies to the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter.
