Rachel Gretchen Danberg, age 37, of Cokato, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Hennepin County Medical Center after a courageous battle with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and chronic back pain.
She was born Oct. 31, 1970, in Litchfield, to Kale and Nancy (Broan) Danberg. Rachel grew up in Cokato and graduated from Dassel-Cokato High School in 1989.
She continued her education in Waseca to be a veterinary technician, and later pursued a degree in criminal justice at St. Cloud State University and through A/U online.
Rachel was a bus driver for Cokato Transportation (Bus 9), and had her own pet-sitting business, which kept her busy and allowed her to enjoy a great variety of pets.
She was most proud of completing Emergency Medical Training, and serving as a volunteer on the Cokato Ambulance crew.
Rachel was employed in Hutchinson at HTI from 1990-1997.
Prior to her disability, she was a good bowler and had received many trophies. She was also a good softball player; having pitched for the D-C girls’ softball team and also in many recreational leagues.
Rachel also enjoyed golf, exercising, reading, writing, and loving her pets. Her biggest joy was her motorcycle, and she put many miles on it.
She is survived by her father, Kale (JoAnn) of Brooklyn Park, mother Nancy of Dassel; sister Linda (Norm) Ponsford of Dassel; and brothers David (Donette) of Cokato, and Jeff of Howard Lake.
Rachel is further survived by niece and nephews, Trista, Kenny, and Seth; and her cats, Walker and Moocher.
Rachel was greatly appreciative of the help she received from her therapists. She was able to be a blessing in death, as she was in life, by being an organ donor.
Memorials may be given to any animal shelter of your choice.
Memorial service was Thursday, May 29 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Cokato with the Rev. Dan Swanson officiating. Music was provided by Yvonne Rammel, and interment was in the church cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Swanson Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
