Paul died June 16, 1987 at age 38 of kidney failure/stroke after a kidney transplant in Tucson AZ. He is survived by John Patla '63, Jane (Patla) Slinker '65 and Bill Patla '66.

Paul was a "born again" Christian. In May 1987 he recieved his BS degree in Botany at the University of Arizona and was employed by the University of Arizona. Paul was married twice but never had children.
