Robert "Bob" Leo Behrens died on June 9, 2016, in Castle Rock, Colorado, after a long battle with cancer. He was 65.
Bob was born on April 2, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Hickman High School in 1969, where he served as student body president and was a pitcher on the Kewpie baseball team that finished second in the 1967 Class L tournament.
He graduated from MU in 1973 with a degree in business and public administration. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
After marrying Rebecca "Becky" Schulte, Hickman class of 1969, in 1973, he moved to Denver, Colorado, where he began a successful real estate career with RE/MAX. Behrens was the director of RE/MAX International's Commercial/Investment Division, where he worked for more than 14 years before forming his own company, Behrens & Associates. He rejoined RE/MAX in 2002 as president and managing broker of RE/MAX Commercial Alliance in Denver. His practice involved global commercial/investment opportunities as a broker associate with RE/MAX Commercial Alliance and financial intermediary.
In 2004, Behrens served as president of the Certified Commercial Investment Member Institute internationally. CCIM recognizes leaders in the commercial investment real estate industry, and he earned the CCIM recognition in 1992.
He also served as treasurer of the Denver Metropolitan Commercial Association of REALTORS in its inaugural year and was active nationally with the National Association of Realtors. He served on numerous committees of the CCIM Institute and was the Colorado/Wyoming CCIM Chapter president in 1995.
In 2004, the International Real Estate Finance Center of the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, China, named Behrens a visiting professor. He received the prestigious RE/MAX International Distinguished Service Award in 2005.
Behrens was a board member of the Finance Department at Metro State College in Denver as well as president and board member of the Rocky Mountain ALS Association and a member of the Douglas Masonic Lodge No. 153 AF & AM in Castle Rock.
He was an instrument-rated multi-engine aircraft pilot, a competitive sporting clays shooter, an avid golfer and a touring motorcyclist.
He is survived by his wife, Becky; his sister, Barbara Behrens of Sewell, New Jersey; his aunt, Ruth Walker of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his sisters-in-law, Judith Horvath of Hinsdale, Illinois, Mary Marischen of Orlando, Florida, and Joyce Schulte of Columbia; eight nieces and nephews; and 19 great-nieces and -nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernece and Leo Behrens of Columbia.
