Greg ElamSG Gregory L. Elam December 1, 1968- December 11, 2007 COLUMBUS, GA— Staff Sgt. Gregory L. "Lil Sarge"Elam 39, of 4510 Gatewood Avenue, Columbus died Tuesday December 11, 2007 in Kandahar Afghanistan. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday December 19, 2007 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Hwy 116 West Shiloh, GA with the Pastor Rev. Aaron Williams, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery according to People's Funeral Service of Columbus, Inc. 1604 Talbotton Road, Columbus. Visitation will be today Tuesday from 3:00PM until 7:00PM at the funeral home. SSG Elam was born December 1, 1968 in Ft. Bragg, NC son of Lillie S. and the late James W. Elam. He was a 1986 graduate of Wm H. Spencer High School, accepted Jesus Christ as his savior in January 2003 and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and its Male Chorus. SSG Elam joined the Army in October 1986 and served until his departure. SSG Elam was assigned to the 54th Quartermaster Company, 49th Master Group, 101st Airborne Division(Air Assault), located at Ft. Lee, Virginia. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal(with two oak clusters), Good Conduct Medal(4th award), National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Southwest Asia Medal with Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Ribbon, Overseas Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal(Government of Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal(Government of Kuwait), Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver Tracked Vehicles, Afghanistan Campaign Medal Ribbon, the Nato Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Army Superior Unit Award. He was a devoted husband and family man. Preceding him in death on May 6, 2002 was his son Damion A. Elam. He leaves to cherish his memories is his loving and devoted wife, Evangelist Angela M. Elam, Columbus; three beautiful daughters Jamieliah and Imani both of the home, Alish D. Elam, Kokomo, IN; two sisters Debra A. Elam, Lexington, SC and Lenora K. (Charlie) Walton, Cusseta, GA; a brother Benjamin E. Elam, Columbia, SC; a niece Michelle D. Walton; a nephew, Timothy R. Walton, Cusseta; a brother in law Christopher Copeland, Columbus and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends. Greg will be greatly missed in our lives.
