Columbus, Georgia- Mr. Thomas Leo Works, 82, of 4424 Royal Oak Court in Columbus passed Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at his home. Memorial services followed by cremation will be held at 11AM Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Sconiers Funeral Home Chapel. There will be no public viewing. The family will depart from the home of Mrs. Martha Works King at 4510 Ridgefield Drive. Mr. Works, or Coach Works, as he was fondly called by his students and team players, was born April 17, 1931 in Columbus, GA the son of Paul Works and Ernestine Johnson Plummer. He was a coach at Spencer High School and was a U.S. Army-Airborne veteran. He was a 1950 graduate of William H. Spencer High School and graduated from Benedict College, Georgia Southwestern University and Troy State University earning a B.A. in English, an M.A. in Physical Education and an M.A. in Administration, respectively. He was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He was preceded in death by one brother, Roderick Plummer and his survivors include 3 sons, Marcus(Dora)Works, of Columbia, SC, Leo(April)Works and Paul Works, both of Columbus; 1 daughter, Teresa Works Cummins of Brooklyn, NY and 3 grandchildren, Lance, Jhmyra and Alden Works and his former wife, Martha Works King of Atlanta, GA.
