GREENWAVE MEMORIAL

Tommy Davis - Class Of 1960

On June 28, 1942, Tommy Davis was born in Columbus, GA the second son of the late William and Leola Davis. On Saturday morning, December 7, 2019, he was called home to be with the Lord.

Tommy attended elementary school in Columbus and graduated from Spencer High School in 1960. While at Spencer, he lettered in many varsity sports, including track and field, basketball and football. It was in football and track that he received scholarships to attend Savannah State University, where he was a collegiate athlete for three years. He continued his love of sports throughout his life. He became an active tennis player and enjoyed playing doubles with his brother, the late William Davis, Jr.

While in middle school, Tommy met the love of his life, his soulmate, Dorothy Ann Clark. It wasn't until a year later, as a high school freshman, that he expressed his feelings toward Dorothy Ann. They were an inseparable pair ever since. They were married on December 28, 1963 and lived a life of love, companionship and service for 56 years before his passing. From their union, two sons were born, Tommy (Burrell) and Gerald (Keke).

Tommy gave his life to Christ at the age of fifteen at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Columbus, GA. He loved the Lord. He and Dorothy Ann moved to Atlanta, GA and joined Beulah Baptist Church. At Beulah, he became a deacon and practiced his faith by prayerful support, hands-on help and wise counsel for all those that the Lord brought his way. In 1997, they joined Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral, where he was ordained as a deacon by Bishop Dale C. Bronner and continued his faithful work as a servant for the Lord.

Tommy was also a leader in the community. He was the first African-American sales supervisor and area sales manager at the Colonial Baking Company, where he worked for 40 years. He retired in 2007.

Tommy was a devoted family man who provided a consistent and loving home environment that was welcoming to all that knew him. He was always a beacon that people could rely on for comfort, guidance and help. His eagerness to help and support others through hardships stemmed from his belief that he was "blessed to be a blessing."

He leaves cherished memories and eternal love for his heart - and loving wife - Dorothy Ann Davis; two sons, Tommy Burrell Davis and Gerald Keith Davis; two grandsons, Braxton Burrell Davis and Dayne Delgado Davis; Daughter-in-law, Francine Davis; Brother-in-law, George Clarke; Nephews, Michael C.
