James Bova Obituary

On Friday morning, August 11, 2023, Dr. James G. Bova died peacefully at Pineville Atrium Hospital while his loving wife, Kathleen held his hand.
Dr. James Gregory Bova was born on May 3, 1947, in Cincinnati, OH, to Joseph August Bova and Margaret Ann Bova (Ziegler). Raised in Columbus and the oldest of seven siblings, (Jim, Jeff, Judy, Joey, Jerry, Jay, John), Jim married Kathy, his high school sweetheart in 1969. Soon after he graduated from medical school in Des Moines, Iowa, he joined the Army to complete his medical training, allowing his family to live in many cities across the United States. Jim retired in 2007 after 22 years of service as an associate professor of radiology at Ohio State University. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathleen Casey Bova; his son Michael Bova, daughter Kimberly Holmes, son in law Richard Holmes and grandchildren, Thomas and Chloe Holmes. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, Jeff Bova.
Jim was a talented musician, having played the banjo for many years. He also took voice lessons and recently began learning to play guitar. He was a staunch supporter of equal rights for all and his compassion for others led him to form deep relationships with those around him. He will be deeply missed by all.

Such good memories!  Jim was part of our Folk music group, "The Christophers".  We practiced far more often than we performed, but Jim was unflappable.  Always upbeat.  Always determined to more than hold up his end of the tent.  Good friend, good soul.  The world may have lost a treasure, but Heaven has a new angel.  Prayers for Kathy and family.
