For approximately 8 years, until a little more than a year before his death, Rolando spent most of his time taking care of his mother who had Alzheimer's disease. This sacrifice took its toll on Rolando's own health so that at the time of his mother's death he had become diabetic, already had a minor heart attack, and had other associated health issues. Rolando was generous to a fault, always putting other people's needs ahead of his own. He loved music and was in the high school band and choir and over the years sang for various church choirs. Also, by the way, for the class of 1989, Rolando's mother was Mary Helen Ramon, school nurse for Calallen High School.
