Ray Chiorgno VIEW PROFILE

Remo "Ray" Joseph Chiorgno died October 27, 2007 in Corpus Christi. He was born October 29, 1924 in Pittsville, Massachusetts to Felice and Catrina Chiorgno. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pauline (Polly); two daughters, Patti (Randy) Purdy and Gina Marie Chiorgno; five grandchildren: Valorie and Samantha Parten, Justin Howard and Joshua and Joseph Moore and six great-grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and met Polly while he was stationed in Corpus Christi. They married while he was in the service and decided to stay in Texas. He attended Del Mar Community College and was inducted into the Hall of Fame for writing Del Mar’s alma mater song. He graduated from North Texas State University and received his Master’s and Specialist’s degree from Western Illinois University. Ray started his career as the band director at Driscoll Junior High, where he wrote their alma mater, also, and then went on as the band director at Ray High School. When Dr. Wright, who was CCISD’s Superintendent, accepted a job as the superintendent in Barrington, IL, he persuaded Ray to come along as the band director. After serving in this capacity for four years, he became the assistant principal in Lake Zurich, IL. Two years later, Ray was the principal at Northwestern High School in Sciota, IL. From there, he became the Superintendent of schools in Green Valley, IL until he retired in 1984. He and Polly moved back to Rockport, TX to be near their children and grandchildren. Ray spent many happy hours supervising his grandsons at all their various activities and transponding on his HAM radio. His memorial service will be November 2, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. It will be held at Christ Point Church with a meal to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Remo Chiorgno Scholarship Fund at Del Mar College care of David Irving, at Del Mar College Dept. of Music 101 Baldwin Room 151, Corpus Christi, TX 78404. The family would like to thank all the Doctors and staff at Doctors’ Regional Hospital for their wonderful care of Ray during his last three weeks.
